Best Programs who haven't won a state title yet

I would think Glasgow’s main problem is Cal and Owensboro Catholic’s main problem is Beechwood. Hard to win one with those schools in the same class. I would think Raceland may get one soon maybe this year who knows.

Historically OCath's main problem has been Mayfield a lot more than Beechwood. Caldwell County I want to say has given them a handful of exits as well. OCath has had some rotten luck.. they have had some dominant teams but just couldn't beat a powerhouse when they saw them in the Semi's or Finals. OCath definitely would be #1 on this list for me.

CAL is a problem for anybody in their class now but people forget they are still relatively new on the scene of domination. Glasgow has had a mixed bag of teams who have been their downfall over the years as they have been primarily a 2A school but bounced from playing Central KY teams or Western KY teams based on alignment. They have been a hard luck case where most years they are almost always good but not always great... and when they are great there just is always someone a little better. If I had to assign a foil to Glasgow I would say the best representative from the Louisville Metro in Class 2A would be the generic description for the past decade or so and then the WKY representative or Danville/Boyle was that team the decade prior.

Danville and Boyle County both knocked off some of the better Glasgow teams and then John Edge was eating their lunch pretty good at OCath for a while.

DeSales probably was their biggest hurdle there for a while about ten years ago and then CAL kind of continued that trend. Bardstown has bit them I want to say a couple times.

I don’t know. Owensboro Catholic has lost 6 title games. Glasgow and Raceland, just like Boone County, have lost 4 titles. All three have more playoff wins and district titles than does Boone. They have a case, but the Rebels collapse over the last couple decades has dropped them from the top of the list in my opinion.

My reasoning for Boone Co is the fact that every title game they played in was back when it was 4 or less classes. From the late 70's- 90's Boone County had a lot of good teams that never got it done on the big stage. For many years they were as good or better than Beechwood, Covington Catholic, or Highlands, which is basically what every school in NKY is compared against when it comes to having a great program.

I would also agree that the best days at Boone County are behind them as well.

What is actually ironic about the Boone County school district is that for all the great teams the four schools have had combined there has been only one school to win a state title, and that was Conner in (I believe 1983). I know Ryle played in the title game last year but I honestly wonder if any 6A program in NKY (Boone, Kenton, Campbell) is ever going to get over the old 4a/new 6a hurdle. I think the gap is closer, but I still don't see it happening unless they decide to close one of the high schools in Boone Co. and go back to having just three. I also don't think that would ever happen either.

I know from reading about Glasgow that they were really good in the 1980s, won a game vs Corbin early in the decade. Later in the decade had 3 straight undefeated regular seasons but lost to Joe Jaggers and Ft Knox as their only losses and ft Knox won state a few times. In the late 90s they made it to state a few times, but lost to the 5 peat Boyle County twice in a row. in the Teens it has been the Louisville Metro Schools like Desales, Holy Cross, and CAL. Just seems like there is always someone a little bit better than them also including Bardstown a few times. And again I don't know the stories about other schools. I have heard of Boone, Owensboro Catholic, and Raceland.

I don’t think OCath really had a lot to do with them not winning a state title and Danville only once Boyle got them in back to back state championships. And they’ve actually owned Bardstown in the playoffs all except one year. Believe it or not the team that killed them the most in the playoffs and when Glasgow had some great teams was Fort Knox. I think in the 80s and 90s they ended Glasgow’s season in the playoffs 11 times including like 7 or 8 years in a row including 3 straight years in the 80s when Glasgow went undefeated in the regular season. The one that disappointed me the most was 2011 because even though they got beat 33-14 I still believe Glasgow was better than Cov. Holy Cross. And Holy Cross never did nothing before or since it was just hard to swallow.

Like I said not really one dominant team that they just couldn’t get over the hump with except Fort Knox. Beginning in 1980 Fort Knox ended their season in 80,83,84,85,86,87,88,90,94,96, and 2010 Glasgow only replayed the favor in the 82 semis and in 92 in the first round. So why yes they’ve been eliminated by several teams Fort Knox was the one that hurt us the worst because they had some great teams in the 80s and just couldn’t get past them.

Actually Glasgow beat CAL 21-0 in 2011 that’s the year they went to the state championship.
