Pikeville has the experience and better team. I don’t see this staying competitive.

Numbers mean nothing when these two play. It will be a war for 4 quarters and the winner will feel the impact of this game a week later. Paintsville has to do a better job against the run and in particular the QB leads and counters to pull off this mild upset.

Umm thanks but No thanks! I know nothing about Boyle Co. basketball but Paintsville is a veteran team that will have 5 players on the floor that can shoot and play good defense. Colby Fugate is a player that can go for 30 on any night. Paintsville doesn’t have great size but all of the rotation is 6’2”-6-5”. Many of you will remember our head coach- Landon Slone. Took over for Coach Runyon in 2016 and has done well. Slone played as a walk on during Billy G’s last year at UK. Cal cut him upon his arrival.

This is the second most important hire in program history. Hiring Chirico was the most important because Paintsville was on life support when he took over. Paintsville had lost to Jenkins the year prior even with some dude named Kash Daniel on the team. I do not think any of the current staff will take over so it will probably be an outside hire.

GRC fans will be in shock at the difference in their program starting year 1. Everyone knows the challenges that 6A brings, but GRC is about to go through an 180 degree turn around.

I can confirm, Coach Chirico has accepted the head coaching position at GRC. GRC you are getting an excellent coach and mentor of young men!

Going to be a tough one for my Tigers (Paintsville). Offensively, Paintsville will return a lot of skill position talent and the QB will allow for some more balance. However, Paintsville will have to replace I’m guessing what amounts to 75% or more of the recorded tackles on defense. However, I have 100% confidence that Joe Chirico and his staff will field a solid 1A defense. Chirico does not get the credit he deserves for developing consistent, solid, and fundamentally sound defensive players. I am happy these two teams are playing. It let’s Paintsville know exactly where they stand and what needs to be worked on going forward.

About how I thought this one could play out. I didn’t think there was a 1A team that could line up and run it at this Paintsville defense and have enough success to score 20+. Phelps had a huge game and has two years remaining. Was very happy to see Jake Hyden play well in this one as well. KCD had some good football players but Paintsville was simply better at what KCD was good at. I’m sure there’s a few 4th down calls they would love to have back but I don’t think the outcome would have changed.

KCD runs the Single Wing offense with minimal passing. I don’t think the stats back up your claim that Paintsville’s pass defense is not good. However, Paintsville’s run defense is the best in 1A. A run defense you can hang your hat on so to speak. In my humble opinion, KCD is not going to line up and run for 250+ yards against this defense.

This is Paintsville’s 100th season of football. Zero state titles. (0-3) Hopefully that changes next week. KCD is a running team. Paintsville’s strength on defense is stopping the run. Strength vs Strength. Tigers 28 Bearcats 14

Hearing Hyden is a go for tonight’s game. His presence on the field makes this Paintsville team even better. Unsure what his role will be, but he will impact the game. We are talking about a player that has started in over 45 games in his career.

KCD by a fairly comfortable margin. They have the experience of playing in this game last year and they are at home. 36-14

One game that I’m wondering about is the Holmes game. Appears Holmes ran for over 300 yards and held NCC scoreless. Is Holmes considered a strong NKY team? I know next to nothing about their program.

KCD will advance behind their old school and very impressive ground attack.

This game shows you just how important special teams can be in big games. NCC pinned LHC down inside their own 5 with a great kickoff and forced a 3& out which resulted in about a 15 yard punt. Game was never the same.

It was one of those games that was really close and competitive until KCD went up 2 scores and got the ball back mid way through the 4th. The winner of this game was/is going to the state finals, IMO.

I don’t know a whole lot about this NCC team. However, I do know this, if they come to Paintsville and rush for over 250 yards against this Tiger defense then they will be state champs.

Paintsville completely shut down everything Hazard tried on offense. Hazard couldn’t have had many yards at all in this one. Paintsville did what they had to on offense and honestly should have had a running clock sooner.

Hazard has obviously improved and playing with a lot of confidence. I don’t know if they have enough offense to beat Paintsville at Paintsville. They were extremely efficient passing against Pikeville and only scored 2 offensive TDs. Paintsville has a solid defensive unit and I think the Tigers score enough to move on to the semi finals. 27-13

Just the latest installment of this rivalry. Huge credit to Poe for playing QB (3rd string) and running the offense effectively. He scored the winning TD in OT. Raceland decided to go from shotgun on 3rd and 4th down in OT inside the 1 yard line. They had gone under center earlier in the game and converted on short yardage situations. Rams also attempted a trick play on 4th and 4 inside the Paintsville 35 late in the 4th and was unsuccessful.

This will be a war. Every time these two play it is a physical, hard fought game. Both know each other too well for me to predict a lot of points scored. Paintsville 27 Raceland 13

Unless Pikeville drops their football program, they should remain #1 after this week. Paintsville should remain #2 with a win and Crittenden should bump to #2 if they travel to Paintsville and win. Also think Raceland is 4-5 but that’s just because as a Paintsville fan I know what they are capable of on any given night.
