I have seen it called for tackling a receiver on a bang/bang play and not a hit to the head or high. There is no teaching or not teaching about tacking. It is a no win for the defensive player.

Yeah a lot of teams dealing with that. Boyle beat Highlands with backup QB. Teams at this level got to find a way to win with what they got.

I agree somewhat. Cov Cath is a hard to team to know where to rank. They have lost to two really good teams and won big against two really bad teams. I am not sure about Elder but I think some of these other 4A teams could play with/beat Ryle. Ryle got beat by Cooper and Highlands beat Cooper by two TDS.

This play still blows my mind. Have to give Haddix a ton of credit for having the guts to call it in that situation. 99% of coaches are probably too fearful to call it in that situation. The trust he put in a sophomore QB with first start to make that throw on 4th and 9 in own territory. The trust in receiver to make that catch/play that they haven't targeted since the 1st game. If that play doesn't work how different does this thread look today.

It puts the defensive player in an impossible position. The defender has two options. 1. Tackle the receiver prevent a large gain/touchdown but also get a penalty for tackling a defenseless player. 2. Not tackle the receiver to avoid the penalty and give up a big catch potentially a touchdown

Yeah that is crazy. He is really long and athletic. I know Atherton's offense is ok not great. I would think he would be their best receiver.

He has his offers as a DB but is a really good receiver also. I notice that he only has one catch on the year. Why don't they use him on offense some?

I would like to see Danville win this one. Not sure if they can handle Lincoln up front but does Danville have more speed than Lincoln. It seems like Lincoln usually doen't have a lot of team speed.

Wasik passed for 80 yards probably 45 of them on one play. He ran for another 83. He accounted for 163 of their 183 yards, 2nd leading tackler and had two sacks. Crazy to lose a game giving up this few yardage but Boyle's offense gave Lex Cath 10 points in the first half to start the game.

I agree Boyle played a bad 2nd half against LCA but really played two bad halves against Lex Cath just 1st half was way worse than 2nd half. Offense has struggled and really confusing as to who they have and don't have on the field on offense.

Agreed on Atherton. How long did their game go with Mercer before called for weather? Can Atherton knock off Manual?

Harney averaged 15 yards a carry. That is impressive and looks like they had no chance of stopping him.

Cov Cath QB is completing 71% of passes through first two games. If he can keep that up it will be hard for teams to say make him beat you passing. For a player like him you don't want your D Lineman pass rushing him. You want them to stay back and contain but he is a tough task for a high school defense.

Is 3A the worst class in KY once you get past CAL?

Mercer beat CAL back to back years in 2019 & 2020 season and averaged around 70 players on their roster under their previous coach. Administrators decide to make a coaching change and the last two years they have been in the 30's on their roster and you see the results. It goes to show you what happens when administrators make a mistake in coaching hires. I would think Mercer would like to go back to the days of having 70 players on their roster and competing with CAL.

Agreed. They have a really good defense. I would like to see what they do offensively against a good team. The score for this game can be whatever Atherton wants it to be.

The Boyle team could be a wild card this year. It will be interesting to see what their roster looks like. Drakeford started at PG for Mercer some as a freshman. I don't think he has played the last two years due to injury but could be a good role player on the wing that maybe helps some if extra ball handling is needed. Sexton could be a solid guy that could help out some. Still not sure Boyle has that one guy that could take over a game and get buckets when needed but roster could be moving in the right direction. Hopefully some more football guys come out too.

Agreed. I don't think the Boyle defense has really been tested yet. It definitely will be by the time district plays comes around.

Like a lot of teams probably too much concern over the Atherton scrimmage. Also maybe feeling too good after beating Bulliet East. I don't think Bulleit East is very good especially offensively. I do think a lot of people wrote Boyle off before the season because of what they lost from last year and I get that somewhat. I think Boyle is better off with everyone doubting them and keeping them lower in the rankings.

Doesn’t look like anything serious. Up big just being careful. Positive is offense has looked great without him being out there for the most part. He is going to be a massive matchup problem for other teams.

0-0 halftime. Both teams struggling to move the ball. Atherton has some good db’s and boyle has struggled to run. Boyle has picked off Atherton twice.

Atherton's Scrimmage cut was short last week so not sure what they look like in pads. Boyle was at Jabez so not sure many people have seen them in pads either. Atherton has several great pieces but still have to prove they have a complete team. This is the quietest I have heard the Boyle fanbase in a really long time. Hopefully both teams get good work in tonight and get to prepare for week 1 of the football season.
