It's Pioneers versus Colonels, episode 27. Simon Kenton hosts Cov Cath on Friday in Wynn-dependence as the 'Neers look to extend their early season win streak to three and the Colonels look to notch their first win of the season after losing to Ryle and Elder. Historically this series has been dominated by Cov Cath, who leads it 24 wins to 2. Simon Kenton's last win took place back in 1998, and in the 5 meetings since then the Pioneers have been out-scored by the Colonels 230 points to 25. Cov Cath skipper Eddie Eviston also has a 2-0 coaching record against Simon Kenton head coach Joe Wynn from the last two seasons during Wynn's tenure at Mason County.

The Simon Kenton offense is led by dual quarterbacks in sophomore quarterback Grant Webb and senior Caleb French. Webb is the 6'3" passer and French is frequently brought in for running situations. Webb's favorite receiver is senior receiver Grayson Harris, who had well over 100 yards receiving for a trio of touchdowns against Western Brown. Senior tailback Landon Brown is the primary rusher for the Pioneers. Simon Kenton's offense was able to put together several big plays against Western Brown, including a 42 yard touchdown pass on the opening play of the game. Despite having to scramble quite a few times on Friday night, Webb showed a lot of composure in the pocket. The defense did allow several sustained drives to Western Brown and Dixie Heights, both, but they were generally able to come up with stops when they were really counted on.

The Cov Cath offense is led by senior quarterback Cash Harney, who has rushed for 215 yards and 3 touchdowns and passed for 356 yards and 2 touchdowns. Harney has been intercepted 3 times in 2 games, but he also appears to have really found some footing as a passer; in 2024 he averaged 93 yards passing per game, while in the first two games of 2025 he has already passed for over 350 yards and he threw for 117 yards in the second half against Elder, alone. Senior tailback Dylan Gaiser has 114 yards and 1 touchdown in the first two games of the Colonels' 2025 campaign. Through the air senior WR Logan Sanning has 3 receptions for 83 yards and a touchdown, and senior WR Donovan Bradshaw has 6 receptions for 57 yards. The Colonels defense has given up over 750 yards this season, and will be looking to finally flex their muscles a little in the upcoming week as they prepare for Simon Kenton.

Pioneer Keys To The Game:
- Offense: Give Grant Webb the time he needs to pass the ball. Let your big quarterback use his strong and accurate arm.
- Defense: Control the edge. You might crash the line of scrimmage, but speed kills, and Harney and Gaiser are both deadly once they make it around the edge.

Colonel Keys To The Game:
- Offense: Control the line of scrimmage and give Harney time in the pocket to see his receivers. When Coach Eviston's offenses can pass the ball vertically they can really open up a can of you-know-what.
- Defense: Stay on top of your receivers, especially Grayson Harris, and get in Grant Webb's face and make him uncomfortable.

Pioneers are playing great defense thry 3 or 4 interceptions last night and several sacks. The Pioneers are up for the challenge especially now that the offense is clicking! 

Harney has thrown several this season. SK has been playing good defense. SK will have to play a perfect game and cut down on stupid penalties.

Giving up 23 points to Western Brown is not playing good defense. There last score was there ones against SK’s second string with a minute left.
