I don't think it matters after one and I think it is fairly likely that CAL clocks everyone in their class.

If you were ever going to mail a trophy, CAL would be the one this year.

I think Lawrence County really deserves some recognition. They are dangerous this year. We will see how they fair with Ashland this week.

Agree, but Russell may deserve the top 10 even more than Lawrence County. 3A may be the deepest class with a really strong bottom 5 that is keeping teams like Lawrence Co and Russell out of the top 10.

I hate to say it, but as we sit today Central is way too high.

I know they have played two very good teams, but there is a reason they have yet to score a point.

In both games they really were not a threat to score at all. I think they only crossed the 50 one time on a drive against Belfry when they weren't aided by a turnover. They lack that big time RB they are used to having, their QB plays very young, and their WR's lack the size and separation you are accustomed to seeing Central get. Defensively they play like a Top 10 team with good size, good speed, and well coached.... but with all the starters they have lost this is also a far cry from some of the nasty defenses they have had in the past.

I would probably put Central near the back of the Top 10 simply for the fact I am not sure I can see them scoring more than a couple times offensively against most of these teams until they get some more experience and maturity at their skill spots. Their roster is loaded with Sophomores and Juniors in the starting spots up and down. Dantzler's son and the Cherry kid both will be very good players before they graduate, but right now their entire team is having to learn how to play a high level of football against an absolutely lethal schedule.

CAL runs away with this one and about 5 teams in 2a would be #2 if they were 3a

As long as RPI doesn't spoil it, I think it's a CAL vs. Murray state final game and yes, I think CAL wins by 2 or 3 scores in that one, I've never been one to mail in the trophy.  I would agree this is about as close as one could come to saying that, but I also thought it was a forgone conclusion that Boyle County was going to win 4A last year, especially after they beat St. Ed's on the road.

Cal will win this one and probably every one for the foreseeable future. It’s a shame for all the other really good teams to know they can’t win state before the season even starts.

I’m not sure why the confidence that Murray is clearly the second best team I think there’s several teams in 3A that can compete with Murray. And the sad part is Murray’s regular season is not getting them ready for the playoffs as the only good team they play is Union and I’m not really sure how good they are at this point in the season. I think they are good but I’m not certain.

I feel pretty good about Murray & notice I said “if RPI doesn’t spoil it”.  I think there’s a good chance Murray goes undefeated in the regular season & potentially finishes up top of 3A on RPI, which keeps them away from CAL & Lex Cath in the 3rd round.  Anyway, I remember the same thing being said in 2022 about Bullitt East & how their schedule didn’t prepare them for the postseason.  I think that worked out ok.  I could be completely wrong about Murray.  They could lose Friday night & blow my theory up.  We shall see.

Murray’s schedule is turning out to be not as good as first thought.  Apollo was supposed to have their best team in 15 years. Now some say they may not win much. Graves went 9-3 last year and could be 0-3 on Friday. McCracken is thought to be better but gets bullied by Logan Co. They picked up Russellville week 5 after having trouble finding a better rival since most WKY districts have 5/6 schools.  3A District 1 will be decided 10/17 when Murray travels to Union.  It’s too early to attempt figuring out RPI, but I do hope it doesn’t bite the Tigers in the end.

Is 3A the worst class in KY once you get past CAL?

I think some may argue that. I think it is mostly that there aren't that many Blue Blood programs in 3A right now. Belfry left and went down to 2A, Franklin Simpson went back up to 4A. Paducah Tilghman went up to 4A a few years ago, as did Boyle before that. The traditional leaders in the Class that are left are CAL, Central, Lexington Catholic and Bell. There are several routine regional contenders like Bardstown, Rockcastle, Glasgow, Murray, and Lawrence County, they just don't have the perennial deep playoff success that some of the other classes have.

I think it is more along the lines of the most unproven class vs the worst class.

I think Bourbon county can be a potential dark horse late in the year as long as they can stay healthy! Coach Rice has already changed the culture in just a short time.
