I am not shocked that East won, but I was shocked Boyd didn’t score more than 20. Any insight on how each team played?

Eerie memories of 2008 Raceland vs LCA. Congrats to the Panthers. A lot to learn for the Rams. And I can leave it at that.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the only road wins in the series came in 2023 and 2024. Raceland secured a 7-6 victory as the visiting team and subsequently the next year, Pikeville visited Raceland and left with a 13-16 W.

They lost at least two in the red zone. LC also had two in the red zone. It is quite clear that Lawrence is dangerous offensively. Going from shotgun empty running vertical to flex bone and running rocket toss will cause DCs to have a headache. Lawrence defensively needs work in their front 6. If they want to make a run, they have to stop the run.

Lawrence is a top 10 3A football team. And they showed that tonight. Ashland looked sloppy, but they were out-athleted. Lawrence couldn’t stop the run, but LC is a top 3A team.

And people called me crazy.

One could make the case for Russell in the top 10 as well. Russell vs Lawrence would be one heck of a game, in my opinion.

I had heard Scott Grizzle was offered the job if he wanted it, but turned it down.

I think Lawrence County really deserves some recognition. They are dangerous this year. We will see how they fair with Ashland this week.

I believe Mason takes this by a couple of touchdowns. Fleming, although 2-0, are down from last year. Mason is also down from last year, but does have a lot of athleticism. Mason 35 Fleming 14

I think this is the most intriguing game in NEKY this weekend because East is well prepared through their tougher two game stretch but I would say Boyd is much more athletic than East. Boyd is not great up front and East graduated key pieces up front last year. If East can pressure Manning, I give the edge to the Raiders. East 27 Boyd 21

I really think Lawrence will shock some people in this game. I would make the argument that Lawrence has, dare I say it, better athletes than Ashland. The true disparity will be in the OL/DL. Can Lawrence play with Ashland up front? I am not sure they can, but I wouldn't be shocked if this a very tight ball game going into the 4th quarter. Lawrence 29 Ashland 28 I am ready to hear it.

Greenup grew up a lot this past Friday in an opponent that I thought could really put them away. After going into half down 21-0, the Musketeers really fought hard to get back into the game. After Russell fumbled the first snap of the second half and turned it over, GC answered with a TD, a defensive stop, and drove down into the redzone before turning it over themselves. Had GC scored, it would have been a 21-14 game late in the third and who knows. However, Russell capitalized off the turnover and went up 28-7. GC responded but ran out of time. I think Greenup's young team learned a lot and their OL played very physical. QB Jasper Davis didn't play well compared to Week 1, but I look for him to bounce back well. GC's defense is much improved in the box and are much more physical than last year. 35-14 in favor of the Muskies this week.

Greenup County crosses the Ohio River to face off against the Portsmouth Trojans in the Ohio River Shootout. Greenup is coming off its first loss of the season in a 15-28 game to a stout Russell Red Devil team. Portsmouth is coming off a big rivalry win against cross-town foe Portsmouth West 13-12. Both teams are 1-1 entering the contest. Since the series was renewed in 2023, Greenup has won both meetings: 28-22 (OT) in 2023 and 37-26 last year. Frasure played a very well managed game aside from the strip sack to start the second half. With a 21-0 halftime deficit for the Musketeers, they showed a lot of battle in their young team "winning" the second half 15-7. When Benge returns for the Devils, they can make an explosive run throughout the rest of the year. I personally do not see the Devils losing another game in the regular season aside from the Ashland game. Russell's defense is stout and held up a pretty physical Musketeer OL. GC struggled to get any momentum in the first half on offense and their defense played very well in the second half. The Musketeers have a tougher schedule this year than the Devils in large part due to their district. Really nice game by the Devils and the Musketeers learned a lot about themselves from this game.

Sounds like I either misheard, misunderstood, or quite simply misquoted who had the seven snaps!

Always love reading about the history of football in NEKY. Most things, I’ve already read, but most of it is also without a full scope of context. Thanks, TCR, and well stated. Neither team may be the best team in the area, but I believe this is the best game in this area this Friday.

I heard several returns for TDs on special teams and one pick-six.

Russell's defense certainly looks good and physical. Although, watching the game, Coal Grove looked very underwhelming compared to the preseason hype in the area. Coal Grove looked very sloppy, but I do credit Russell's defense for getting the job done and holding them to very little success. Greenup is still finding an identity, though throwing for 176 and running for 172 is about as balanced as you can get on offense. Certainly a bit different following the Tyson Sammons era. An interesting matchup looming in Lloyd. It will be a packed house.

I do agree about the benefits. Just seems like the breakaway of both Russell and Greenup aligns with many NEKY also dropping Raceland. Both East and West Carter also dropped the Rams. The arguments I have heard are deeper than just losing players, at least not in the surface. I hope the rivalries are renewed soon, for the benefit of the area.
