BluegrassPreps.com Class 4A Football Rankings 9/15

Featured Replies

Class 4A
1. Boyle County
2. Highlands
3. Covington Catholic
4. Paducah Tilghman
5. Franklin County
6. Johnson Central
7. Corbin
8. North Oldham
9. Logan County
10. Ashland

I see 4A moving around some at the top over the next few weeks.

I think Covington Catholic is the best team. Not sure any other team would play Elder and Ryle as close as Cov Cath did. Boyle has head scratching loss to Lexington Catholic and Highlands lost to Boyle County.

Rankings look good to me. Anyone of the top 4 could win it.

After watching a bit of the Highlands/Boyle game, Highlands is much more limited at the skill positions than I thought. They're still pretty talented on the line of scrimmage though, so maybe they can get it together. They have also been a bad matchup for Cov Cath the last few years which helps their case, obviously.

I agree somewhat.  Cov Cath is a hard to team to know where to rank.  They have lost to two really good teams and won big against two really bad teams. I am not sure about Elder but I think some of these other 4A teams could play with/beat Ryle.  Ryle got beat by Cooper and Highlands beat Cooper by two TDS.

Also, Ryle was healthy when Cov Cath played them.

Yeah a lot of teams dealing with that.  Boyle beat Highlands with backup QB.  Teams at this level got to find a way to win with what they got.

Transitive property in football Ws does not always holds true.

I still think PT is going to be tough to knock out. I wouldn't put too much stock into the Mad'ville loss. The Tornado's couldn't get out of their own way in that game. Penalties and turnovers in key situations,   dropped passes, etc. plus the Maroons are likely better than initially thought. They layed out the perfect blueprint and executed it as well as you could ask for and were helped by a flat Tornado performance. I get the feeling they were reading too much into their own hype and that loss could be the best think that could have happened to bring them back down to earth.

Usually the recipe that’ll get you beat in November. Tilghman is still in the picture but definitely a wake up call, we’ll see how they respond.

1. Cov Cath

2. Paducah

3. Franklin

4. JC

5. Highlands

6. Boyle

I don't get it on Franklin.  They beat Bulliet East by a TD and Boyle put a running clock on them. Franklin only beat LCA by a point.  I am good with the top two but 3-6 seems a little off.

Are you saying Franklin County is too high at 5? I think there's an argument for Johnson Central and maybe Corbin to be ahead of them.

Yeah I think they are too high.

It’s still early but how much do we think experience amongst players and coaching  will be a major factor come playoff time for these top 5/6 teams? This is the closest 4a has been in a while with no clear cut favorite.
