  1. Cov Cath has out-rebounded every team they’ve played so far this year, including St Henry by 34-24. The height may not be there but guys like Ipsaro and Hussey jump way taller than their height.
  2. Chandler was actually encouraged to play football. The idea that you can’t play other sports at CCH if you’re on the basketball team is just not true and never was, even before the Ruthsatz era. Both the Mayer brothers played. Aiden Jones played this year and there are a total of five players who now play football and basketball at either the JV or varsity level. Brady Hussey is a stellar tennis player who won the region as a freshman and has a shot at state in his career. Ruthsatz actually encourages his players to play other sports. These are the facts!
  3. Thanks Professor for the clarification. So, do you know who started these tournaments? Are they sponsored by an organization? Who runs them? I always assumed they started because we don’t have classes at the Sweet 16 and it was a way for smaller schools to bring home the gold. Maybe I’m wrong. Regardless, I like the tournaments.
  4. Are these tournaments sanctioned by the KHSAA?
  5. Same case with me! I think the way it is set up, you don’t realize they’re going to continue billing you every month. They really aren’t very upfront about this and it leads me to believe it is a bit shady. It’s also a poor quality product. If it were a car it would be a ‘72 Pinto. I’ll never subscribe again. The KHSAA is making a mistake getting in bed with these guys.
  6. Dan Weber is back in NKY after being in California for a long time. He’s writing for River City News these days. Great writer. Great guy!
  7. Hold on BGP basketball fans! I’ve got the solution! There are 270 teams in the state. So I say we divide it into 135 divisions with two teams in each. It would start with division 1A (little schools like Covington Latin) all the way up to 135A (big schools like Scott County). This way every team gets to compete against someone their own size and, best of all, EVERY team is guaranteed to make the finals. I also say we do away with keeping score! With everybody making it to Rupp, and with no scoreboard, no team will get their feelings hurt. Better yet, when each game is complete, we let both teams cut down the nets, followed by all getting a participation trophy, a t-shirt that says “I’m awesome”, a Happy Meal, a group hug, and both teams singing Kumbaya My Lord in unison. Gives you goosebumps just thinking about it, doesn’t it? Then I say we find more money for every community to post a sign at its city limits saying something like “Welcome to Mayberry. Home of the State Champion Mayberry Bulldogs!” With flashes of brilliance like this, maybe I should’ve went to Cov. Latin!!!
  8. Noah was in a weak program his first three years and developed nicely under Ruthsatz. Had it not been for illnesses I think he would have doubled his stats. This kid has aptitude and attitude and I believe he can contribute at NKU. A real team player. Great touch for a big guy. Go Noah!
  9. Agree. Cooper was clearly the second best team in the state that year.
  10. No denying Joey Moser was a huge contributor in the Colonel’s victory. IMO, the most underrated guy on the team (perhaps the entire region) and that may have a lot to do with him being injured and missing a lot of games. Plays with a lot of fire! And confidence! Great stroke! Last I looked he was second or third on the team in shooting percentage and most of his points aren’t coming from underneath. Go Joe!
  11. Couldn’t agree more. I’ve been saying this all year. Ironically, free throws were a big part of there past two state championships.
  12. Does anyone know how many minutes Moser and Hupmann played?
  13. I’m a CovCath guy and I sure didn’t have my feelings hurt. When you go to an all-boys school for four years you tend to grow thick skin. The truth is, it’s human nature to root for the underdog, unless, of course, your team is the overdog. I appreciate what PP1 does for we high school basketball enthusiasts. Soldier on PP1!
  14. Huppman was at practice this week, however, I don’t know if he’ll be playing.
  15. Does anyone know if this game is going to be shown on KHSAA/NFHS?
  16. Totally agree! By my observations, holding the ball only seems to happen in the 4th quarter and usually way towards the end. And if the team holding the ball is yet to be shooting the bonus, it’s agonizing to watch it play out. That said, I would be in favor of experimenting with a shot clock in the 4th only. As for expense, I can’t imagine it would be that terribly expensive. If schools can find ways to afford artificial turf for their football fields at costs over $500k, a shot clock, by comparison, would be a drop in the “bucket.” (Pun intended!)
  17. Thanks, JD. Do you know how the committee is selected or how many sit on it?
  18. New Cath 1967. Rieschberger, Noll, etc Cov Cath 1968. Rippe, Derkson, Topmiller, etc
  19. CovCath has but five feeder schools, however, they have a total of 50 grade schools represented among the student body. That’s a mere 10%, while the basketball team’s starting five amount to 60% coming from feeder schools. It’s not just basketball and football that’s attracting so many non-feeders, it’s the stellar academics, facility, activities, etc. As for the game, Highlands was the top scoring team in the state prior to Saturday’s game at 82 PPG. The Colonels held them to 39, less than half their average. Wow! This speaks volumes about Highlands’ schedule. I think a lot of Coach Listermann, however, I don’t understand why he doesn’t schedule tougher teams. It’s no way to prepare your team for tough opponents or tournament time. Vinson is one hell of a player, but IMO would be an even better player and better prepared for college hoops if he were averaging 15-20 and playing a tougher opponents.
  20. I know for a fact he has mono. Typically takes weeks to recover. Not good for Noah or the Colonels.
  21. His family moved to NKY from Evansville. I believe his mother is a Fifth Third employee and was transferred to Cincy.
  22. I have friends who are connected at Moeller and they feel Eviston would be foolish to accept a job there. They feel Moeller is in total disarray and always struggling to hang on to key people, sports or otherwise. Those in charge fired a very popular principal (I think they said his name was Collison), who now has Bishop Fenwick on the rise. An equally popular John Rodenberg was let go after winning two state championships, while Moeller has struggled ever since. LaSalle’s coach recently rejected the job as did another, though I can’t remember who they said the guy was. From what they tell me, it sounds like a toxic environment that Eviston doesn’t want to get involved in, especially considering how CCH really has it together in all phases.
