9th Region All-Star Team vs. Covington Catholic Colonels

Featured Replies

A friend of mine, and I were discussing in the form of a "What If?" the 9th Region put together an All-Star team to battle the almighty Covington Catholic Colonels, and if such a team could either give them a good game, or beat them.

I have my ideas of who I'd have on that team, but for the sake of not taking the fun away from you, let's hear your starting 5, and up to 3 reserves for no more than 8 players. CovCath typically plays anywhere from 6-8 players, so you only get to select a total of 8.

Go!!!

Quite simply, I can't put a team together of 9th region players that could beat CCH.

@B-Ball-fan I'll take a crack:

Jacob Meyer (Holy Cross) 38.3 ppg

Keirnan Geraci (Dixie)  19.5 ppg

Zac Barth (HHS)  18.5 ppg

Joe Herald (HHS)  17.7 ppg

Big Man Caleb Brooks (Cooper) 14.1 ppg 6.9 Rpg

Head Coach: Kevin Listerman (HHS)  Asst Coach:  Tim Sullivan (Cooper)

Venue:  Holmes High School

Great topic, adds additional support to the respect Cov Cath deserves, but I think there are a number of combinations that would beat Cov Cath this year on a regular basis! Cov Cath has a big 3 and they are a tremendous big 3 but after that 4,5 and reserves are no where near what you could put together from a region 9 all star team!

Well, who are they?

Agree, you may want to add a couple to CovCath to beat the team that you assemble.  No one team in the 9th has what CC has, but to think an all star team from the 9th could not beat them is not giving some really good players credit.

Maybe a more interesting angle to this question of "Who could beat Cov Cath this year" would be, Which teams in the 9th Region on their best night could knock off an average Cov Cath night....

Now let's not go crazy and say well if so and so shoots 80% they could knock off Cov Cath....maybe change it up and say what game did they play this year could they beat Cov Cath if the replicated that type of play.

For example:

I will take the Highlands team that beat Holy Cross (87-72) and NCC (90-60).....those 2 games HHS really played extremely well....they play like those games I'll go up against Cov Cath this year and maybe come away with a win.....

I have my fingers crossed that the above HHS team shows up at BBT next weekend...

Forget the “all star”conversation let’s go with if Highlands, Cooper, Dixie, Conner could add two players to their current roster what would result be! In my opinion all 4 teams plus 2 would win more then lose. Love It  @B-Ball Fan you knew what you were doing with this one!

Nice!! Love the Dayton love

Here's my choice, and it's purely based on teams I've seen play this season.

Head Coach: Tim Sullivan

Caleb Brooks (Cooper)

Kiernan Geraci (Dixie)

Billy Wogenstahl (Dixie)

Jacob Meyer (Holy Cross)

Javier Ward (Holy Cross)

Quantez Calloway (Holmes)

Aiden Lohr (Conner)

Cameron Boyd (Beechwood)

Can’t argue with this group

I agree with this. I wonder where CCH fans rank this team? We will all find out soon but I see this team in the middle or just below the middle of Ruthsatz's teams at CCH.

I’ve seen a couple people say that but really I have a hard time agreeing with that. The schedule was loaded, I mean outside of the state championship teams this team is right there with any other team they have had. Arguably the best guard and big man they have had in the Ruthsatz era, and the supporting cast is still really strong with a defender like Starks and shooters around them.

Honestly it would take a lot for something like that to happen this year. There isn’t a Vinson or Veith out there, actually the exact opposite that player is now on the colonels. Ipsarro will be able to control any game in the regional for them. You have to take it out of his hands and hope the other guys aren’t shooting well, which is also difficult when Rylee and Starks are feasting at the rim. Just a tough assignment for the rest of the region this year, which sucks because our tournament is one of the best but hate going into knowing who is most likely going to win.
