Let's not play the injury card here. CCH also had a starter out with an ankle injury. And Michael Maher has not even suited up yet.

I am surprised Silver Grove lost against a smaller program like Heritage. SG must not have any other decent players.

NCC was never in this game. CCH had a balanced attack with 4 players in double digits: Green - 15 and 8 boards Fleek - 14 and 9 boards Thelen - 12 and 10 boards Disken - 12 Green is the 5th player to lead CCH in scoring. Playing team offense and intense defense is how they are going to win this year! Jefferson was amazing and is probably one of the top 3 point guards in the 9th region.

Those are horrible numbers yet they still almost won at the buzzer over a very good team from Ohio. I assure you this, their stats will be better (not that they can get much worse) tonight when they play NCC. This Taft game was simply an off night for their shooters.

Many in NKY would be surprised if NCC wins this matchup tonight. I don't think the current NCC roster has ever been within 15 points of the current CCH roster if you take into consideration the JV and Freshman games from the past few of years. I am going with CCH by 15. That being said, I did underestimate the other team from Newport in their game last night.

Your post implies that Sisson missed the 2nd free throw on purpose. That makes no sense in a tie ball game - they wold always want the lead to avoid going to OT. Of course HHS would've had a better shot if he had made the free throw. They would have been winning with under 4 seconds to play. They "should've of, could've, would've" made a couple more free throws or just one more three throughout the game. This was a great game and I am looking forward to HHS matching up with Campbell & Cooper, and Newport playing Cooper & Cov Cath as the season progresses.

A 57 point margin - ouch! That is significantly worse than the 39 point beat down Cov Cath gave them in last season's Sweet 16.

I would put Cooper ahead of Cov Cath. They are in the same region and Cooper is the better team right now.

What do you mean by HHS "not being ranked pre season"? Everybody was ranked pre season.

This is a big district matchup but I suspect these two teams to be positioned to play again in the district finals. I am taking HHS at home in this one. Im just not sold on Newport yet.

All pre season rankings are premature. That is why they are called "pre season." Rankings always change throughout the year. Yes, its is obvious now that CCH may have some gaps. And that Cooper is playing well and deservedly #1 in the 9th. Most people had CCH and Cooper at #1 and #2 preseason but all felt they were close. I would never measure a NKY team against how they play with a Cincy team. Weirdly enough, they are quite different. I would say Cooper has way more talent than Elder but they narrowly escaped that game. Teams are gonna have bad games and learn where their holes are. Thats how they get better!

Fern Creek sat their better players the entire first half for disciplinary reasons. Therefore Cooper dominated the first half and they were up 23 at the midway point. Fern Creek outplayed the Jags in H2 but had too big off a hole to dig out of. Deere and Walters had good games for Cooper.

U.G.L.Y. The sad thing is CCH had several chances to tie and potentially win this one. 2 missed free throws and a missed layup inside a minute. Then a missed shot at the buzzer that was forced.

Cooper had too many weapons and too much height for the Tigers. I was surprised and impressed to see Spencer playing point - he is a big young man!
