Who wins this one and why? This will be my first 9th region game of the season.

If Highlands beat CovCath at home, and the way they’re playing this season, I’m going to say they can pretty much beat everyone there. Hopefully it’s a great game.

Newport is a much better shooting team than Cov Cath. Newport lacks in depth and it shows later in games. I take Newport, Taj can eliminate Highlands dominance in the middle.

Highlands by 8.

 

I don't think Newport has enough outside of Miller, Mcguire, and Harding to win this one. Highlands' depth and energy at home should carry them. As good as Taj Harding is, I do not think he can/will do enough defensively to limit or slow down Sisson. From the games I've seen this year, the only thing to slow down Sisson is fouls. If he stays on the court, Highlands wins.

This is a huge game for the Highlands Basketball program. They have had this game circled for quite some time. If Highlands brings the energy they did against CCH then I say anything is possible. And if they don't then it's the Wildcats by 12. I like the BullyBirds by 8-10.

BullyBirds is right...If the officials let this game be a football game like the Cov Cath game was then Highlands wins. If they actually make the teams play basketball, I'll take Newport.

They way Highlands plays it actually reminds me of a Covington Turners League game. So don't act like the CCH players have never dealt with a little Physical contact once or twice.

 

It even gets Physical over at the Friars Club(Oh) for any CCH kid who hasn't experienced Turners. Certainly the CCH players have played there!

I'm not a Cov Cath supporter. I am definitely not a fan of the style of basketball where finesse and skill are taken out of the equation. Basketball is supposed to be poetry in motion and right now that's not what I have seen out of Highlands.

I'll take Newport by 5.

This is a big district matchup but I suspect these two teams to be positioned to play again in the district finals.

 

I am taking HHS at home in this one. Im just not sold on Newport yet.

Newport dominated the glass and points in transition last year. Birds will need to board and get back on D this time around. If they play tough, which this group will, Birds by 7 at home IMHO.

The determining factor will ultimately be either quickness/athleticism/transition vs. strength/physicality/slower pace. Being that Highlands is at home, that should play into their strength & physicality. Newport is probably the more talented basketball team in regards to skill, but you play to win. Highlands has the tools to deter that skill & finesse through physical play. I believe this is a double digit game, just not sure which way I'd lean.
