The JV tournament starts this Friday 9/18. Games will be played at Town & Country in Wilder. The schedule will like be posted on the NKY High School Soccer Facebook page. If you haven't already you should request access. Tell Tony I want my referral fee!

Conner defeats Dixie 1-0 in PKs (3-1). A well-played game - physical and hard-fought. Conner controlled the ball and pace throughout - couldn't break through in regulation. No OT periods - game went straight to PKs. Conner's first tournament win since 2021. The Cougars beat Calvary Christian, St. Henry, and Cov Cath to reach the finals, and outscored their opponents 12-1 in the tournament. Roll Cougs!

His was a first for me… Conner takes advantage of a handball call in the box early in the game to take a 1-0 lead. About 6 minutes later Conner is called for a handball in the box and Simon Kenton converts. 1-1 which would last us until half. Not many good opportunities were generated in the 1st half. Second half was back and forth, not a lot of possession by either team. Simon Kenton had that the scored if I remember correctly off a corner. The Conner keeper bobbled the ball, but in the end I believe Simon Kenton was called for bumping into him and the goal Wes denied…to the disbelief of the Simon Kenton fans. With about 1:38 seconds remaining, Conner is attacking and another handball is called. Conner converts to go up 2-1 and holds on for the win. first time for me seeing all the goals be scored off called handballs in the box…3 of them. Conner host Holy Cross on Saturday at Fred Nevel stadium.

Conner had a chance to draw the game even with 1:38 remaining in the 1st half. Anthony Ortiz drew the call in the box, but the Cougars missed the opportunity to convert the PK going into halftime. After a lengthy weather delay, the game was called.

Games start next Friday…let the 2026 season begin.

The all-star game has been cancelled for this year. The funds to purchase the insurance could not be secured. Not sure who all was going to participate, but congratulations to these young men for being selected. For Conner Ayden Terry and Abram Dotsal were selected. A big thank you to those who were working behind the scenes to make this happen…hopefully next year the funds can be secured.

WKU got bigger and stronger this spring. I don’t think either Edelin fits the new profile for a WKU guard. Fairfield is a great landing spot. Good luck to Cole in Connecticut!

Cov Cath creates chaos then thrives in the chaos they create. There is no team in the state that plays fast more efficiently than Cov Cath. Teams pass ahead for a layup, Cov Cath passes ahead for a 3. Run with them at your peril.

eFG % = (Total FG + (3PG * .5))/Total FGA. = (36+6)/61 =0.689. Reinforces how important the 3 point shot is both offensively and defensively. Hypothetically you could have a team shoot 20/50 but make 19 3s and 40% plays like 59%.

Effective FG% was 69%. 24/36 2FG, 12/25 3PG. Effective FG% and PPP are the best data points to understand a team’s overall offensive efficiency and productivity. Given the 3PT coaches need a gameplan to defend effective FG%.

Cooper played a terrific game. Philpot and Knuckles were nails tough and Ryker Campbell provided a huge lift off the bench. Cooper made 8 3s in the first half and led throughout the game, including 50-45 after 3. Finn Louden led Conner - scoring and playmaking. It was an uphill slog for the Cougars. As hard as they played, Cooper always seemed to have an answer. The Cougars kept grinding. The last 12.4 will live in Conner lore. Logan Back’s hustle to retrieve the ball, his decision in the moment to find the best shooter, and Bushman’s composure to shoot the ball rather than panic and chuck it, all led to the game winner. Beyond this game, the 33rd District is in great hands with coaches like Nate Browning and Justin Holthaus. Both teams were very well coached. Connected, disciplined, well-schemed, with kids stepping up to make plays. It was clear how much the players from both teams wanted to represent the name on the front of their uniforms. A great high school game.

It was alumni night for both the HHS boys’ and girls’ teams. With so many kids playing college basketball they had to schedule a date very close to Christmas - the Trailblazers were on board for a girls/boys doubleheader. It was cool to see all the alumni in the house - a reunion of sorts for the 2021 state champion boys team.

Holden Smith accounted for 17 of Ryle’s 32 second half points ( 6 2pg/ 1 3pg/ 2 FTs). Good and important win for the Raiders.

From what I saw this year…the Cougars will struggle next year. I think both futbol/football teams will look to the younger classes.

Was at this game…Wow. Conner couldn’t get anything going in the first half. From a fumble, missed PAT, missed field goal, giving up big plays on defense, it looked like this was going to be Henry Clay’s night on Senior Night! IMG_4167.mov Conner fought and found some momentum in the 3rd, but then seemed to lose it in the 4th. Big play for Conner was scoring with 1:42 left in the 4th, that got them believing and then the on-sides kick let them get the the touchdown that put them up by 1 and Coach Rash goes for 2 and Conner converts. The kickoff goes out of bounds around the 4 yard line so HC gets the ball at the 35. They make some big plays drive down and stall then go for the field goal which as mentioned was missed. Conner fans going crazy and dancing but the yellow flag ended the early celebrations. 15 yards go against the Cougars, 2nd field goal attempt good. OT was crazy and the Cougars somehow held on. Worth the price of admission tonight and the drive back from Lexington was much nicer watching the Cougars win. Here’s the on-sides kick that was recovered by Conner.
