Just FYI Christopher Columbus of Miami won their game against Miami Senior 47-7 on Saturday and now stand at 7-1 in Class 8A.

Hope I'm wrong but I don't think Covington Catholic gets past Johnson Central. They should handle Boyd County nicely at home but winning in Paintsville will be tough.

My head says BG but my heart wants the Dragons. Looking forward to Halloween night!

Highlands all time record against Simon Kenton is 25 and 1. Enough said.

Highlands was overwhelmed on the first drive then settled down nicely. The 7-7 first quarter score was pretty indicative of the tough football game this was. The Birds lost some emotion when Beau got his foot stepped on and went out. Losing Ulrich also didn't help; they were playing to keep it respectable in the latter stages of the 2nd quarter. When Hergott started the third I thought it was over but when Beau came back midway in the third the whole team seemed re energized. The killer was the kickoff return for a score; we really didn't recover. Great onside kick by Patrick Schoepf and a really great effort on the final kickoff; if the ball bounces back toward HHS instead of straight up Jared Pulsfort had a great shot of grabbing it around the 20. It was a loss; no moral victory. It was a great learning experience.

Highlands could have easily been up 35-0 at half had a couple of play calls been different. I was truly surprised at how they destroyed Covington Catholic. That said, if their is a rematch, yes Covington Catholic will be better; but so will the Birds. Until someone dethrones them this year they get the number 1 slot. Period.

Highlands had way to many penalties.

My heart say Trinity but my head says Ensworth.

Trinity played a very solid game; they are extremely well coached and should do very well this year albeit against a brutal schedule as usual. I think their short passing game is very good especially on a number of wide screens they continually gained huge chunks of yardage. This really showed up Highlands Achilles heel from all of last year on the defensive side of the ball. Offensively I thought they played ok. They did what they wanted to do in terms of giving the running backs some reps and trying to test the blocking on a real opponent. They will get better. The Bird's really did not open up the offense but I could see some encouraging signs. Beau Hodge can be an excellent QB but needs to recognize when to throw it away and save the yardage instead of taking the sack. For the first time out I was encouraged. Next week against St. X I really look to see more of the same but with improvements on both sides of the ball. I have my reservations for December in Bowling Green and I think I will be using them!

The fact that Highlands had to forfeit games it won when following a court order was ludicrous to begin with; the KHSAA was under poor management at the time and later events proved they stepped all over themselves trying to get out of their own way. the 'Birds won those games the old fashioned way with hard work and determination. Why is this even on a thread about 0-10 teams winning a playoff game?

Looks like 15-16 will be a lot of fun! Since I travel to almost every game it will be easier on the budget for sure! Don't understand scheduling Boone County though; not much competition there.

If you haven't gone for the whole weekend you are truly missing a great opportunity. The cost is negligible and the roads are easy to travel; Bowling Green does a great job of hosting the event.

Great season's by all in Northern Kentucky. It was so enjoyable to witness High School Football again. The thrill of watching the kids go out an compete is the best. Congratulations to all the kids who played this year; you bring great entertainment and joy to a lot of people. On to Basketball and let the fun continue!

I don't understand the fuss; WKU has a great facility to host the tournament for all six classes. It is one weekend a year! This is one 'Birds fan that books a hotel as soon as the weekend is officially announced. Once again I get a bonus this year since New Cath plays right before the 'Birds. A running clock against Collins this year seems highly unlikely. Time to focus 'Birds and bring home #23! (How many does SK have?)

The running clock is designed for a number of reasons including an opportunity to keep kids from getting hurt and to get some kids into games that might not otherwise play. When the coach of the team leading puts in the reserves the sportsmanlike thing to do is to have the trailing team do likewise. When that happens all benefit. The state semi finals is a tough place to have a running clock with 8 minutes left in the first half. Pretty sure neither coach wanted to pull it down that early. Perhaps having a running clock only in the second half makes more sense but I agree that once it goes on it should stay on and that what happens in the regular season should carry right on through.

Covington Catholic did not have a moral victory. They played a good football game and played it hard. Down 28-6 in the 4th he made a sound coaching decision to punt on 4th down and not have Highlands march down and score again with a short field. In the end the 28-13 final was very respectable. I've seen a lot of games over the years and none get my gut churning more than against CCH because they always stir fear in the gut because of how hard they play. It has been a down cycle but no way would they claim this as a moral victory. Look at the way Dale pulled on the reins and went to running the ball in the 4th quarter to shorten the time CCH might have the ball. It was a good move that shows his respect for the CCH program. See you again Colonels in 2014!

I like the system just the way it is! If any change is contemplated it would be to insure more even distribution of East-West teams based on geography to prevent the Beechwood Mayfield fiascoes of years past. Dividing the state into geographical quarters makes a lot of sense.

Lexington Catholic is a very talented football team. Highlands needs to stay focused on the prize; another effort like the one they gave Friday against Covington Catholic is called for this coming Friday. Two years ago the game in Lexington turned on two huge kickoff returns for the Birds. We need that kind of effort again.

Paducah and Warren Central both showed me a lot; wish them well!
