The Shamrocks begin 2014 ranked #2 in the BluegrassPreps.com Preseason Rankings and #3 in 6A Courier-Journal Coaches Poll behind Scott County and Male. Trinity is coming off a 6-6 season that included a 27-26 loss to Ensworth in last season’s opener. Trinity travels 160 miles to visit the Tigers home in the Nashville area this Friday. The kickoff is set for 7PM Central Time.

Head Coach Bob Beatty begins the season with four new defensive coaches. Nine starters return for Trinity’s defensive coordinator Jay Cobb. Canon Jackson (Sr, S) should be ready for the opening game after sitting out the scrimmage at Highlands. Two-way player Rodjay Burns (Jr, CB) looks ready for his dual role in 2014. Vince Lococo (Jr) and Zach Berger (Sr) are the two outside linebackers. Damon Lowe (Jr)and Brentton Ervin (Sr) will start at the inside linebacker positions. Adam King (Sr), Connor Foos (Jr), and DJ Johnson (Sr) are the projected starting defensive down linemen. They had success keeping the Bluebirds running game in check during the three quarter scrimmage. Overall, the defense allowed one scoring pass and forced a few turnovers versus the 4A #1 ranked Bluebirds.

The Trinity offense will feature a new QB in sophomore Larry Harper III. He has some talented skill people surrounding him. Burns is projected to be a standout at wideout. Dalton Jones (Jr) is another potential standout. Jones took the opening offensive play 75 yards for a touchdown in last week’s scrimmage. Jalen Reed (Jr) is a gifted runner who can power through defenders or use his speed to elude tacklers. Donald Brooks (Sr) will contribute as a running back and receiver. Foos will see plenty of action on the offensive line. The Shamrocks varsity offense tallied 31 points in three quarters in Fort Thomas, Ky.

The Ensworth Tigers are seeking their fifth consecutive Tennessee Division II (Private School) State Title in 2014. They are ranked #24 in the MaxPreps USA football rankings. The Tigers finished 2013 with a 27-10 victory over Memphis University School. The Tigers were 11-1 and were ranked #45 in the USA Today final poll.

Ensworth returns a few NCAA Division I prospects. Defensive backs Rico McGraw (Georgia) and Donovan Sheffield (Vanderbilt) lead the Tigers defense. Two other seniors, Hunter Travis and Thomas Freeland, handle the other DB slots. Defensive tackle Myles Douglas (6-0, 296 lb) and linebacker Daniel McCloud (6-2, 210 lb) are two other senior stalwarts for the Tigers.

On offense, Sheffield is expected to be the lead running back along side fellow senior Trevor Holt. Senior tight end Brycen Hopkins is expected to be a prime target as well as McGraw, a wide receiver. P J Settles, who missed the final three games in 2013, returns for his senior campaign at quarterback. Settles is being pushed by junior Coleman Goodwin, a pro-style QB getting looks from several colleges. In Tennessee, the discussion of who is the best football team in the state begins with Ensworth. In recent history, the discussion ends with this Nashville private school.

Trinity is seeking to earn their 23rd State Football Championship and number 11 in 15 years under Coach Beatty.

Great stuff, thanks for posting!

I am thrilled a new season is here!!!!

So are a whole lot of folks.

"it's for the kids.................................

It will be a tough game on the road, but I'm pullin for the Rocks!

Hoping THS wins but going on the road to Nashvegas will be tough. Ensworth was so physical last year here and THS almost pulled that one out. Good luck to the Rocks!

Saw Ensworth play Hillsboro in a scrimmage, sorry Trinity don't see you pulling this win out. Their the best team in Nashville. Big and Physical with speed. If Trinity wins this game they are truly legit!!

Who is Hillsboro??

Team in Nashville that has the number 2 ranked DE in the south, RB with SEC offers, DL who was offered by Old Miss and 3/4 kids with mid major offers. Ensworth was up by 34 by halftime.
