Holmes had 25 boys in uniform tonight, or as my old high school coach used to say, "in costume" -- 11 on field and 14 on the sideline. Still, Bulldogs hung tough after falling behind 14-0 on first two Holy Cross possessions. Indians scored winning TD with about 6 minutes to play in game. Arnold and Abernathy are both nice running backs.

Yes. Definitely a successful season. I've been following the Bulldogs for many years. I think Coach L and his assistants did a quality job in getting the most out of this team, especially this past week.

CovCath put on a clinic the second half tonight vs. St. Henry. Whatever Ruthsatz said at halftime needs to be bottled and sold. My best guess is that CovCath wins game three 65-50.

I think your assessment of the play is accurate. (I had a good view of the play from the upper deck.) My first thought was that the ref thought that Rabe never had established control of the ball before he stepped out of bounds ... while the ball remained bouncing on the court ... so when he made contact with the ball a second time, that was when possession occurred. But, yes, he definitely had loose control of the ball, stepped out of bounds while not in possession of the ball, then headed to the hoop with the ball. I have no idea what the rule is in this situation.

My buddy pointed out that Coach L used his timeouts wisely tonight. When Dixie got on a bit of a run, a T/O frequently kept a 3-point deficit from becoming a 7-point deficit.

What does Holmes do different in game 3? Do they go stall ball if Holy Cross sits in its tight zone? More full-court pressing? Do they go with a bigger or smaller lineup? Or does Holmes do nothing different and just hope for a better outcome?

In the regional games I've seen at NKU, teams that embrace the trey don't shoot it so well in a gym this size. I look for HC to slow the pace and methodically pound the ball inside. The second Holmes game was not a fluke. Holy Cross 52-40.

I wouldn't want to play Holmes right after they are coming off an embarrassing loss. I would also argue that playing on a different, longer NKU floor in the eight-team regional probably benefits Holmes' game, too. Having said that, Holy Cross is 4 to 20 points better than everyone else.

There was a free throw contest at Holmes tonight and a basketball game broke out. Or so it seemed. Believe the Pandas closed to within about 8 midway through 4th quarter but Bulldogs hit their free throws down the stretch. Pandas handled Holmes' press better this game than first game but struggled to find offensive rhythm, especially in 2nd and 3rd quarters.

The larger problem is that no one on the Enqy sports desk is weeding out these frivolous ballots. Possibly because there is no NKY Enqy sports desk anymore.
