dallaslaredo Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 So far in the first round we have... Highlands vs Holmes, or Boone Co, or St.H/Dix loser Holy Cross vs NCC, or Boone Co, or St.H/Dix loser Ryle vs Holmes, or NCC, or St.H/Dix loser St. Henry/Dixie winner vs Holmes, NCC, or Boone co I'm not so sure the St.Henry/Dixie winner gets any better draw than the loser. Highlands has a 33% chance of drawing Holmes first round.
LuVmdgs Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 I don't think there is a good draw in this region I think every team is capable of winning & loosing on any night. Ryle lost last 4 reg season games then shows up to win district. Dixie looked good early and bad late but looked good first game of the district. Boone is always tough. Then theirs Holmes Highlands & HC seen them all play and all are beatable. As of right now I'm going with HC as my favorite and ryle as my upset winner..
RCC9 Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 As a Highlands fan, I would love to draw Holmes in the first round and be opposite Ryle.
Twotoplace Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 As a Highlands fan, I would love to draw Holmes in the first round and be opposite Ryle. I wouldn't want to play Holmes right after they are coming off an embarrassing loss. I would also argue that playing on a different, longer NKU floor in the eight-team regional probably benefits Holmes' game, too. Having said that, Holy Cross is 4 to 20 points better than everyone else.
Walter Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 I'll be at the draw tomorrow morning and will post the selections as they come out.
RCC9 Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 D I wouldn't want to play Holmes right after they are coming off an embarrassing loss. Having said that, Holy Cross is 4 to 20 points better than everyone else. There's different ways to look at when you'd rather play Holmes. I'd rather play them right now. And have reasons for that, but I won't say it on here cause I would get drummed by holmes fans! Lol! But one thing is I'd want to know if you've won or not. Then have time to prepare for the next game and HC at the end. As for the big floor, there's nothing better than a team that spreads you out playing a team that likes to press on a big floor. So we have different opinions there as well. As for HC better than anyone else, I know a group of girls that feel they gave a game away earlier in the season at HC and can't wait for a second chance and feel they are just as good as HC and anyone in the region.
keepinitreal Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 I would like Highlands chances on the big floor. Really good guards that have good handles and passing skills. I'll take it. Agree that I would not want to see Ryle across from me. They are playing some pretty good ball right now.

And with Ryle on the other side, they match up well physically with HC and have a chance to knock them off. And they didn't play each other in the regular season.
Baseball Nut 24 Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 RCC - Great points and agree with you on Holmes. IMO when they can't turn you over and get easy transition baskets they tend to struggle especially in the half court on offense. I also agree with you that Holmes playing on a bigger floor isn't as good for a team that presses a lot. That being said they can easily turn it around and win 3 games next week. On your last point about Highlands feeling they let one get away earlier against Holy Cross and from a Highlands standpoint you may be right. From a Holy Cross standpoint they don't feel like they played a very good game at all that night but still overcame a double-digit deficit to beat a top team who at the time was ranked ahead of them. Should be a fun week of basketball next week and whoever comes out on top and goes down state from the 9th I will be rooting for down at Diddle Arena.
RCC9 Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 You're right. They did overcome a double digit deficit in double OT at home. That's why I think this game could go either way and the two teams are pretty equal IMO. OT last year (and neither team lost anyone) and double OT this year. Doesn't get much more even than that!
Baseball Nut 24 Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Just didn't want it to appear as though HC played great and only won by 1 in double OT. LOL

Great points RCC9 but a little off with who the teams returned Highlands may have returned there same team from last year in which took overtime to beat HC last year, BUT your forgetting a small detail from last year to this year HC gained Turner one of the best scorers in the state. the first time around she was not on her game I think if they meet in the region she will be the difference maker. Also that being said I don't see Highlands hitting as many 3's as thy did at HC which kept them in the game.

Also that being said I don't see Highlands hitting as many 3's as thy did at HC which kept them in the game. You're right. They did "gain" Turner and yes, she can score. However, scoring is only one part of the game. You can take that how ever you'd like. Secondly, you can say what you want on whether she was at full strength or not, she has historically not scored her average against HHS over the years. There is a reason for that as well. But she had 16 against Holmes the game before and 14 against HHS. She averages 17. So it doesn't appear she was far off her game that night. Third...you must not be too familiar with HHS. They only made 5 threes in the first game. That is below average for them. So why do you think they won't make as many this time around. For me, that's an indication they didn't shoot well at all. And all the 3's were made by 1 player. The other 5 that shoot them didn't make any! So that also tells me there is vast room for improvement there as well! It's funny you say "kept them in the game". You do recall that HHS had a double digit lead for most of the first half. And then HC had an outstanding third qtr and then the 4th and two OT's were played to almost a draw. So I'm not sure how HHS shooting at a rate below their avg "kept them in the game". So as you say Turner was not on her game, I can say that 4 of the top 6 HHS players were also not on their game. We can do that stuff all day. The fact is...HC had everyone (including Turner), played at home (on a day that was moved due to "Illness") and the Birds took them to double OT, had PLENTY of opportunities to win and also did not play their best. So I'm gonna stick with the opinion they are very even. It's really kinda funny anyone would even try to debate that one team is significantly better than the other from a result of a double OT win. I bet if you ask their staff and players, they aren't as confident as you. They know if those two teams meet again, it will be a battle and either team has just as much chance of beating the other one.

Say what you want about the coaches and players they are not worried you seen the adjustments made that came to a 22 point win against Holmes the second time around why can't that happen against Highlands as well? And Turner easily can go for more then 17 against Highlands.
