This pretty much sums up my thoughts as well. In first game Fri vs. Highlands, Holmes also had a strong second quarter, then spent the second half playing not to lose as opposed to trying to pull away. Give Dixie credit, though. They played a real tough second half. No way Holmes can play only half a game Monday night and beat CovCath.

I expect a very close game. Dixie wins if their bigs step up like they did in second half vs. Conner.

Biggest regional matchup of powerhouses since Holmes vs. Boone in '09, the year that Holmes won it all. I'll take CovCath in OT.

I listened to the second half of the game on CovCath Internet radio. As I recall the final moments, CovCath announcer -- or his sidekick -- said Holmes' running out the clock at the end of second OT "instead of running up the score" was classy. So when McClendon scored at the very end ... whoops ... the announcer -- or his sidekick -- had to backtrack on his statement/prediction. So what was classy then became classless by default. Yawn. This stuff happens on school broadcasts. Much ado about nothing.

Did you mean to say 3 minutes left to play in third quarter? I thought Holmes had a 15-point lead entering the 4th quarter.

Whoever emerges from the bottom bracket -- probably Holmes -- will have a bit of an advantage in the final. Will play NewCath-CovCath winner one day after the winning Cath team will have expended much emotion and energy in the semi game. By the way, might we see a standing-room-only crowd Sunday at BOK?

Holmes is getting everyone's best shot right now. Could still be after-effects of loss to NewCath at NKU, too. What really jumped out at me was the 14 points scored in first half vs. Harrison County on Monday. Obviously, coaches have been focusing on defense in practice ... but 14 points for a half?! Heck, I'm wondering whether the first-round game vs. Holy Cross in the district might even be competitive.

Only explanation I can think of is that one coach believes the Holmes losses to the two Caths were rope-a-dopes, and that Booher and Listerman will fix the problem areas when the regionals get under way.

Perhaps someone has video or photo sequence of the questionable trey.

Day game on the road after night game on the road for Holmes. Sounds like Dogs rallied in 4th quarter, which is good. Giving up 81 points is not good.

Chames didn't play tonight. Was on the bench in street clothes. Ryle hung tough. Shot the ball fairly well.

We've learned over the past few polls that Holmes coach doesn't cast a vote for his team, so if one adds 8 points to Holmes' total, that's a more accurate measure. The 'Dogs have defeated the 4, 5, 6, 7 teams, so I don't see how any coach can rank them lower than 3.

Uh ... the game was only sold out 90 minutes before tip-off. Couldn't get another person in the gym with a shoehorn. No. 1 vs. No. 2 in the region. Maybe that's why there's some "enthusiasm" to have the contest reach a conclusion. To say this game "means nothing" is way off the mark.

We both know that the NCC-CC second half won't take place Feb. 14 before the scheduled double-header, even though the idea has some merit. I remain somewhat puzzled by the lack of enthusiasm to finish the game. Were there problems with student conduct at the suspended game? I don't recall reading anything along those lines here.

We don't know if the teams will square off in the regional. They didn't last year. By the way, this ain't a make-up, this is completing a suspended game. Is CovCath going to refund $3 for every $6 ticket purchased that evening? Why don't the two schools just schedule the second half of the game at 4 p.m. Feb. 14 at NKU?

Mason County game on Wednesday was lightly attended. I don't think you'll have any problem getting a seat, if the game indeed is played.

You're a he-man. I'm worried about the single-mom nurse who's just pulled a 12-hour shift and now needs to run her cheerleader daughter and three of her friends to the game in a car with a five-year-old battery. By the way, wouldn't you agree with me that NewCath and CovCath fans should worry more about completing their condensation game before accusing the Kenton County School District of "playing it soft"?

I agree with your last sentence, but that's usually when the temps are around 30 and the snow and ice start melting in the afternoon. Nothing has melted the past 72 hours. We're talking 5 below last night. That's "dangerous cold."

This involves more than whether the main roads are clear. Many of the side roads are still icy. It got down to 5 below last night. You comfortable with a carful of kids in a disabled vehicle when it's 5 below and 10 o'clock at night? I sure as heck ain't. Just look at these games to be made up as a bonus come February.
