Jackson Davis will be the difference...Dixie can match up with Lafayette everywhere except at the 5.

 

I'd expect Hatton to get 20+ but Davis and Lafayette to get the win.

 

Will be interesting to see how Dixie handles Lafayette's full court pressure for 4 qtrs. Newcath wore down throughout the game against Lafayette's pressure.

How will Dixie guard Davis? Have to think they learned a lot from fronting Hall in the PCC game. I expect Hedger to give Davis all he's got from the block. Maybe bring in Bolin and play some zone???

 

I haven't seen Lafayette, so I don't know what they do offensively.

Lafayette will be too much for a pretty good Dixie team. What Walter said is exactly how I feel.

I saw Lafayette play twice in Lexington. The Davis kid is a D1 stud, big, athletic and skilled. Pretty to watch. I have no idea how Dixie will even try to match up with him. And if that isn't bad enough, they have another big boy that I would describe as a cross-between Drew McDonald from NCC and Nick Niehaus from Dixie... good size, high motor, good low post moves. Lafayette will press the whole game, which is a two-edged sword and Dixie's best hope for an upset. Dixie does have the depth and personnel to handle a press... but will they be allowed to attack the press with offensive pressure? If they are told to just get it across halfcourt and try to set up the offense, then I don't like their chances. To beat a press you have to pressure the press.

They are a deep team. They can play anywhere from 8-11 kids. Most of their kids bring different things to the table, so they can give you a lot of different looks. They are just a very versatile, well coached team. They'll ride Jackson Davis, obviously, but it's a mistake to think that they are just him and not much else. They will try to dictate the pace you play primarily by using their pressure, which can adapt as either relying on their size (i.e., kids like Davis, Blakley, Jenkins, etc.) or their speed (i.e., kids like Jackson, Jenkins, Robinson, Carpenter).

 

They're very deep (complete list of kids you might see play in their offensive section). Because they're so deep, they'll simply wear some teams down through the course of the game, even if it means giving up some points off of their pressure early on. They go on lots of runs, so weathering the storm and getting poitns on them during their lulls is certainly paramount if you want to beat them.

 

 

Defense:

 

Teams like Lexington Catholic and Scott County are generally known to have pretty good press offenses, but Lafayette primarily played them in their trademark, 2-2-1, 3/4 court pressure. I'd expect the game against Dixie to be no different. They'll primarily look to use their scheme and smarts to force you up the sideline, then use their size to trap and give guards trouble throwing over it while their quickness gets out and sweeps the passing lanes.

 

They can adjust their pressure a variety of ways, but I'd expect them to use it to dictate the tempo. If they feel like they can, they'll try to turn you over and wear you down as they throw fresh bodies in. Even if they can't turn you over, I'd expect that they'll try to make Hatton expend energy dealing with traps, giving up the ball, then having to work to get it back.

 

 

Offense:

 

As I said earlier, Davis is Davis. He'll get his on posts, penetration from 12-15 if you step out on him or on uncontested jumpers if you don't, and he's going to get a lot of putbacks.

 

Lance Blakley is a senior PG who puts you in the mind of a Mark Jackson type player. He's a big, physical guard who can put smaller defenders on his back and get where he wants to go, and when he gets there, he'll use his size and frame to keep his passing angles. He's not the quickest afoot, but he's effective.

 

Ross Jenkins is a sophomore whose in the 6'5-6'6 range and has a wide body. You'll have to probably have to account for him underneath, which is a chore considering all the attention that Davis will command.

 

Harrison Lane is another sophomore. He's a small, frail looking kid, but he has deathly range and a quick release. He's the son of Transylvania Coach Brian Lane, so you know that he's going to be fundamentally sound, play within himself, and not make many mistakes. He spaces the floor and really stretches you out defensively. He really helps so much of what they do because his range is so deep and his skill pretty much requires that you stay with him and help off of someone else or risk getting burned.

 

Dequise Robinson is likely going to be the other starting guard. He's a really quick kid who can do some things, but given all of their other weapons, he sometimes goes unnoticed. Nonetheless, he's a senior who I've observed helping carry them for stretches as well. You really have a tough decision with who you put your worst defender on between him (a senior guard who'd have a much higher average on most other teams), Jenkins (a 6'6 wide body that's going to draw your 2nd post defender because of Davis), or Lane (a kid who makes the most of his ability and can heat up quickly).

 

Dontavion "Lucky" Jackson is their 6th man. He's a junior and is an All-City wide receiver in football. He can really cause havoc in their pressure, and usually plays well when they are getting out and creating transition opportunities.

 

Jaelin Jenkins (So.), Jajuante Carpenter (Fr.), and Javarious Robinson (Fr.) are all younger guards who don't have a lot of size and are probably still growing into their bodies, but they make up for it with quickness. Jenkins and Carpenter in particular have had some really bright spots when they were called on at different points in the season.

 

Taylor Hall is a 6'3 senior who can see spot duty as well.

Dixie is still awaiting word if they can travel to Scott County for this game.

 

If they are permitted, the game will be moved from 9pm to 630pm in the middle school gym.

Sounds like Lafayette just has too much talent for Dixie.

With the county cancelling all activities this game should be cancelled as well. Chevy only tweeted about the varsity game at Scott County earlier but I see no way the freshmen game goes on.
