If more people cared then they would think before they voted, or maybe they do think and think that playing game on days when there is no school shouldn't be done!

Seems like maybe we ought to consider making basketball a fall sport.

 

Winter sports means winter weather, and obviously we can't cope with winter weather.

LB, I actually had the "this could impact Kenton County schools getting invited in the future" conversation today.

The funny thing about Kenton County rules and cancellations is that a good chunk of Holy Cross's student body has to drive the same roads as Scott and Simon Kenton kids to school and sporting events and seem to be just fine.

I don't have any problem with the Kenton County School District/School Board opting for a "safety first" approach. (Isn't that what NCC and CC did a couple weeks ago stopping that game at halftime?) School buses are just one aspect of this icy conundrum. One also has to consider the teen-age kids who would be tempted to drive in the ice and minus 5 temps to watch their classmates play.

In today's sue happy world, the School Board is just covering their butts and the schools, and you really can't blame them.

 

I do agree with this. I think this is 99% of the reason that games aren't played one days when school is out in Kenton County.

My suggestion is when you vote, find out what those in charge stand for! If you want to play games and or practice on no school days (snow days), then find candidates who agree with you and then vote them into office because I am pretty sure that 7 of of 10 people who vote for someone on the school board, know little or nothing about their positions on anything!

 

It's not a silly rule. It is totally ridiculous and unreasonable!!!

Now, if something like the buses not being insured for that 24 hour period on days when there is no school, I will acquiesce, but then and only then. This total game cancellation situation is out of control. Highlands and Campbell County cancelled tonight??? How bad is that???

 

I agree! IMO I have no idea why that game wasn't played. HHS does not bus to the game they were at school and were making the road trip. Schools are being cancelled for temperatures and bus fleets that are not starting? It all gets dictated by insurance and risk assessment. Are we reaching an age if temps are under 20 kids have the option of attending school online? How in the heck does the Northeast operate school boards need to rethink the process!!!

I will agree that most people don't inquire about the candidates running for school board positions to find out their position or views, but let's just say that the KCSB decision to not allow student athletes to go to their games when school is closed has nothing to do about the kids education. It is all about PTOA from possible litigation...period. So, with that said, have the parents sign a form saying the school or KCSB will not be held liable if the child is in an accident going to the game. It's a win win....school board is off the hook and kids get to go to their games.

Seems to me that the two Caths could complete their game prior to the doubleheader at NKU on Feb. 14.

As far as the larger matter, again, I have no problem with the cancellation policy in conditions like we are experiencing. Nobody wants to see cars driven by teen-agers broken down on the icy interstate with big rigs whizzing by at 80 mph, or school buses getting stuck trying to make it up Taylor Mill Hill. School boards are responsible for the welfare of the kids, and not to simply satisfy a bunch of bored, middle-age basketball dads.
