For high School no. For Middle School Kenton Co does not provide Transportation.

Thats what the school board dictates. There might be exceptions for small teams (tennis, Bowling, Golf) but I know all major sports have to take a bus their, and in fact (i could be wrong) but if its a local game, they have to ride the bus back to school as well.

Have to say I admire the board! No school, no sports!

All Friday afternoon and evening activities, including night school, were canceled.

The district sent an email to parents Thursday, saying school was cancelled because of "unsafe road conditions on side roads and in subdivisions, combined with forecasts calling for the continuation of bitterly cold temperatures that will not allow road conditions to significantly improve."

District officials said the cancellation, the seventh day missed for winter weather, means students will be in school through June 5.

That's how the NewCath girls softball team traveled to games, until Daddy's Little Girl got her license. :thumb: In actuality, the girls drive themselves to all home games, and most away games, with the exception of the far-out county teams (Ryle, Cooper, Bracken Co).

I think it was 2007 (my senior year) when Kenton Co. made the change to buses for road games. Kids do drive themselves to home games.

So why can't kids drive to road games or ride with parents or something like that? Why does it have to be bus transportation to away games? The bus isn't picking them up for home games.

No idea. Apparently too many accidents took place on the way to road games so they mandated buses. Doesn't change kids driving to home games.

 

My junior year while playing soccer our varsity team would meet at a teammate's house in Triple Crown before arriving to Dixie as a team. One day before a game against Bishop Brossart, one of the cars was involved in an accident and two kids were ejected from the car. Thankfully their injuries were not life threatening. But it was on the way to a home game, so unless buses start picking kids up for home games (or for away games since the kids drive to the school to get on the bus), there is no reasoning for this rule.

I would submit it is more about the school board being sued by somebody for this goofy rule. Certainly it makes since to cancel in some situations, but canceling everything even when the roads are mostly clear is dumb and creates unnecessary rescheduling problems for the teams and is sometimes an embarrassment.

Kind of being serious, kind of making a joke, but........What's the chance Dixie is not invited to any "out of the area" tourneys next year???? This is the 2nd year in a row these "silly rules" have caused cancellation of games.

Honestly don't think it's a silly rule. Sports are a secondary when it comes to education and if it's to dangerous to attend school for the day, then it's also to dangerous to play a game. Sort a like it was when I was a kid and stayed home sick. My Parents rule was if your too sick to attend school then your sick all day and that includes when school was out and my brother and friends were outside playing!
