You might be confusing HHS with Beechwood. As I recall, a doctor and his wife sued BHS maybe a dozen years ago for failing to field a girls soccer team. Seems that if schools offer girls soccer, they also must also offer boys soccer, and that would dilute football at BHS. Perhaps a Tigers athletic supporter can validate my account and let the board know where things stand today.

I make it to two or three Holmes home games a year. I remember seeing Peterson as an underclassman -- possibly when he was a freshman. You could see early on that he had D-1 potential.

His number also was retired by UK, I believe. Irv Goode was the best lineman ever to come out of Northern Kentucky.

Irv Goode played at UK, then was a first-round draft pick by the St. Louis football Cardinals in '62. He played 12 or 13 years in the NFL and, I believe, won a Super Bowl ring late in his career with the Dolphins. He played in two Pro Bowls. I'd put Goode and Alexander way at the top of this list.

Do any of the Ivy League schools offer athletic scholarships? If Harvard doesn't, then the answer is probably no. In other words, this young man's financial obligation will be the same as every other student admitted to Harvard ... based on FAFSA/family income/etc.? What does a year at Harvard cost now? Got to be more than 60 grand tuition/room/board.

I'm looking at growth patterns, not the situation as it exists today. Lots of room for growth in WV, little in Ft. Thomas, Ft. Mitchell et al. Once housing rebounds for good, the hot area for growth will continue to be the Ryle-WV area. Highlands and Beechwood BB programs also are hindered by football-first emphasis. Just my opinion.

Of all the openings, the two most desirable positions from a demographic standpoint would certainly be Ryle and Walton-Verona. That's where your "moneyed growth" is occurring.

Well put. The educators who instituted and were the face of the IB program for the most part have now retired. I get the feeling that the educators who inherited the program lack their predecessors' zeal and commitment for IB. Many graduates of IB went on to distinguished universities -- and, more important, did well at these institutions of higher learning.

Don't forget the IB program at Holmes.

Printing the mini Enqy in Columbus (to save money for Gannett) prevents any "late" results from making it into print. As a result, zilch on NDA vs. Marion in the Sunday edition. Be interesting to see if Enqy will be able to print game stories when Reds and Cards go into extras in St. Louis (Central time), much less cover games in California.

Don't feel bad. This has happened before, and to better teams. When Holmes won it all in '09, Boone sat atop the final 9th poll.

Did any of the other seven teams in 9th Region tourney ask to practice at BOK Center as well? Sounds like it's only a story if the other teams were treated differently. In any event, I can't see how it helped Holmes all that much, because they certainly weren't in top form vs. Cooper and CovCath, as opposed to how well they played vs. PRP at Rupp.

Future will be bright for the Bulldogs if Booher and Listerman et al. can succeed in keeping Bolden focused on improving his skills and not get caught up with sleazy agents, unethical coaches, promises of easy money, etc. I rooted for Holmes from the upper deck in the midst of a large group of MC fans. They were nice folks. Knew their stuff. Nine-year-old MC fan sitting in front of me helped me understand a couple of calls. Should be a huge crowd tonight for the semis.

Missed the first free throw, which was nullified by the horn. Missed the second. Hit the third to put MC up by four with a few seconds remaining in OT. Hence, huge gain for MC, since Holmes down two scores. Having said that, Holmes' 12 turnovers cost them the game, not the officiating.

Agree. It's as simple as that. One excellent team beat another excellent team. It would have been interesting to see what the outcome would have been had Beetle shot a trey in the closing moments of regulation instead of the refs calling a foul on the breakout. In the big scheme, turnovers doomed Holmes.

Likewise, back home after seeing the game live. Impressed with Chames' and Englemon's ability to hold their own down low vs. PRP's big big men. Bolden didn't shoot real well today but he had some dazzling assists. PRP mostly struggled from outside except for the two treys late in the fourth quarter. Seniors really stepped up for the Dogs today.

Best half of basketball I ever saw was when Holmes put up close to 50 points vs. LexCath in first 16 mins of second-round game in '09.

Tourney used to be rotated among the three largest HS gyms in each of the three counties, of course. And let's not forget that the final -- and sometimes the semis too -- used to be televised live on Insight Ch. 6. (As recently as '07?) So one always had the option of watching the game at home. No longer the case. Hence, you need a nice large facility like NKU's.
