I totally soured on the Presidents Cup after the year when they could not finish on Monday because all the players had to get on planes and go to paid appearances. What a crock. Never watched again.

What if they did not cut but made it clear that anyone not in the top 25 players will never see the field even if it is a running clock for or against? So only 30 players show up. What if a 4A school that normally has a roster of 50 players suddenly has 80 players but 30 of them never played before but want to be part of a team and are willing to practice knowing they may never get into a game? Should they now be moved to 6A?

So when Highlands Duffy was running out rosters of 30 players because if you did not contribute you were not really needed they would be 1A and when Mueller was having rosters of 85 because everyone was welcomed they would be 6A

Maybe the 43 points all came on runs up the middle and to continue to do so would be doing no one any good. Maybe the Frosh QB is totally inexperienced and a screen pass is a good way to let him throw a short pass and get some confidence. Maybe it was 3rd and 25 and instead of chucking it 30 yards down the field a screen pass was a chance to pick up and few yards and then punt or maybe even a first down.

Well when we get to the end of the year obviously injuries will be a big part of who can play at a consistent high level for more than one game. With this many good teams it is going to be important to stay healthy and be able to bounce back after huge wins........and win on the road. Some team has to win it all. That team will have earned it. No easy roads this year.

Top 5 are fine. Next 5 you could shuffle a little and not be far off, Conner maybe should move up. Lloyd getting absolutely no love despite 4-1 record with a loss to Beechwood. Yeah I know they haven't played the toughest schedule but you can only beat the teams on it. Only 8 coaches voted and someone had Dayton at #10 and two had Cooper in the top 10?

Glad Holmes got a win. What has happened at Harrison Co? They had some pretty good teams in the past and they were even .500 last year.

Kind of a true test for both. Big SK win and we can consider them in the mix for some kind of playoff run. BW win and they cement the 1A heavy favorite role. BW will need another effort like they had against Corbin and they can pull it off. Still not sure how good SK is. They look real good at times and then meh at times. SK might wear them down especially if they get a lead. Game being at BW might be the difference.

One of the keys to beating Ludlow is making them work on defense and keeping the offense off the field. I think Brossart can do that so they can win this game. Now if Ludlow gets on top it definitely becomes a more difficult task so Brossart will have to play well at the start of the game and weather all the Homecoming stuff. I see a high scoring shoot-out.

I think Ludlow will have their hands full next week and after that they can worry about meeting Beechwood. Playing well so far but beating Beechwood at Beechwood is a very difficult task.

Winton Woods beat LaSalle 18-15

No Starting QB for NCC. Out this week. Plus he is the punter. Back-up QB played as well as he could but obviously is not a passer and must play the whole game at Safety. Plus no Fullback/DE that played so well against CAL. And two lineman still out too. But Conner is such a solid team. Does not turn the ball over. Quick and disciplined in blocking and route running. Bend a little against the run but not much. Took advantage of every short field NCC gave them which was a lot. Will they go deep in the 6A playoffs? No. But nothing wrong with getting every ounce of ability out of your team.

If I were Ryle or any other NKY 6A team I am begging for CovCath to be good every year and to play them every year so that I could judge my team before I run up against a Louisville power in the playoffs and get beat by 40. Maybe by playing CovCath and getting beat I could focus on what needs to happen the rest of the year. Is my offense unbalanced? Could I not stop the run? Do I need to platoon more because we got worn down? Better to lose to them 42-14 than to beat them 35-14 and think wow we will just roll thru 6A this year.

One thing to remember is that smart 2A teams use non-district games to find out who can play and who can't and then as District and then Playoff games come around the depth chart narrows. Stud RB may play 90% of the offensive snaps and 20% on defense at LB and once playoffs come around that goes up to 75%.

KCD wins over LCA and Beechwood gets easily defeated by SK and I would put KCD at number 1.. I don't think it is going to happen so no worries. Bigger goal would be for KCD to play LCA tough. Common opponent Walton Verona would indicate that KCD has a lot of work to do.

Should be a good one. Home field seems to matter in this match-up so maybe the edge to Brossart. Common opponent Bellevue suggests this one could come down to the kicking game.

That is a good point. Probably most of the 5-10 would have similar results.

We certainly will know more after this week. Mayfield / Corbin is a dandy. LCA against a top 2 1A school. Desales with LexCath. And then the 6, 7 and 8 teams all have games they could lose.

With only 9 coaches voting all it takes is 1 to jumble things up. The first 5 are fine although I see Campbell Co at 4 and BW at 5. The 6 thru 8 you could put in any order and not be too far off. Scott and Dixie and Lloyd could be 9, 10, 11. Lloyd has done nothing wrong and even the loss to Beechwood was respectable. Ludlow we will find out more about when they play this week and then next week against Brossart and then eventually against Bellevue.

I think there is a perception that Brossart and NCC are competing for the same kids and that is not really the true picture. Brossart's main competition for kids is Campbell County (with their top notch facilities) and the main competition for NCC is Highlands (with their #1 or #2 in the state ranking). If you took all the Catholic kids out CC and Highlands then Brossart and NCC could not hold them all. There is just a finite number of families with more than 1 kid who can afford the 25k-30k per child once they get to high school not to mention the thousands of dollars in tuition for the first 8 years.

Also if you want to base it off of anything historical check out where the majority of students went when St. Thomas High school closed. It was Highlands.

It is not bias. If Brossart were to close how many kids would end up at NCC? I would imagine the vast majority would end up at Campbell County.
