Class 2A

 

No game in the State of Kentucky turned heads more than Christian Academy- Louisville falling to Newport Central Catholic. Danville opened the season as the top ranked team and now regains their seat at the front of the class after surviving a scare of their own against 3A Waggener. DeSales came very close to being the #1 ranked team after a hard fought win over a ranked 5A Fern Creek and will go on the road to take on a solid Lexington Catholic squad. Glasgow and Somerset each have a chance to make statement against ranked foes from Class 4A. The toughest game of the week? Mayfield will take on 3A contender Corbin on a neutral field in Tennessee.

I said in the preseason that I think DeSales is #1 with what they return and I still think it is the case but the Ads are a solid #1

Honestly, I'm not too sure LCA hasn't been the most impressive team in the class, especially offensively.. Danville's close call against an average, at best, Waggoner team, gives me some doubts about them defensively.. I'd probably have Desales at #1 right now because of the quality of there wins and I think they have the best defensive team in the state.. My concern with them is can they score enough to beat a Mayfield or LCA, as those 2 will most certainly score some points against them.. CAL is still as talented as anyone, but, they've got to find some answers on offense outside of Wright.. Mayfield is about right at 3 or 4.. Another very explosive offensive team, but, need to shore up the D the past couple of weeks..

Despite winning by big margins, I thought LCA looked relatively ho-hum through their first three games. But they've really turned it on the last two weeks. I look for them to continue that high level of play this week against a very good, but probably overmatched KCD squad.

I'll just say that they do some questionable things. They should at the very least be 3-2 and probably 4-1.

I believe that anyone of the top 4 could be #1. This is one heck of a class to be in.

At this point I would not be shocked to see any of the top 5 win the title, I would be shocked if the title came from outside the top 5. Those 5 are really really good.

I'd say the top 6 teams. I like NCC is flying under the radar. Even after there big win. No one thinks they have a shot still.. One game at a time!

Well, I always believe defense wins State Championships, and right now, Mayfield has work to do. Their offense, very balanced, and very explosive. Every receiver, every back, and the QB ( Guthrie) has the ability to take it to the house on any play. They are probably not in Cal's Milton wright caliber, but about 8 guys can make huge plays. Now having said all that, I don't think we have played a real good defensive team yet either. Your going to have to be very good to hold them under, I'll be conservative, and say 35 points.

LCA is a very good football team.

We certainly will know more after this week. Mayfield / Corbin is a dandy. LCA against a top 2 1A school. Desales with LexCath. And then the 6, 7 and 8 teams all have games they could lose.
