BluegrassPreps Class 1A Football Rankings (9/18) Discussion

Class 1A

Beechwood was proven to not be immortal as they tasted defeat for their first time against Class 5A's top ranked team, Covington Catholic. The Tigers remain the top team, but now the rest of the small schools have new hopes that they may be able to reel in Beechwood. Kentucky Country Day makes a move up to the #2 spot and will have a chance to make a huge statement against an undefeated Class 2A Lexington Christian Academy. Paintsville made short work of Williamsburg last week and will now keep it local travelling up the Country Music Highway to challenge 3A Lawrence County. Raceland defeated one team from the Buckeye State and will try to go for wins in consecutive weeks against Ohio teams.

1. Beechwood vs. 2A Covington Holy Cross

2. Kentucky Country Day vs. 2A #4 Lexington Christian Academy

3. Hazard at 2A Prestonsburg

4. Paintsville at 3A Lawrence County

5. Raceland vs. Portsmouth West (OH)

6. Louisville Holy Cross at Providence (IN)

7. Williamsburg at #10 Ludlow

8. Paris vs. Berea

9. Pikeville -- OPEN

10. Ludlow vs. #7 Williamsburg

Who would you say is the biggest surprise on this list?

Also looks like the Williamsburg v Ludlow game is an important one!

Ludlow is the biggest surprise - being in the top 10. If they beat Williamsburg, they will be on their way to being one of the stories of the year in 1A.

Glad to see Ludlow get in. They been very impressive so far.

Not sure why Pikeville is so low. In one thread you talk performance and not record based, yet outside Beechwood, Pikeville has the had the toughest schedule by a mile.

Pikeville actually jump a spot.

Who have they performed well against?

How many other teams ranked in front of them would of performed well against that schedule?

That is a good point. Probably most of the 5-10 would have similar results.

Pikeville over Paris. I haven't seen Paris this year but when I saw them last year they had no defensive line whatsoever

Paris just lost its first game by 5 points Louisville Holy Cross. I think that puts them spot on and close.

What about Russellville? Lost to two higher class teams with winning records? Top 15?

You said it was about performance. I can only compare how Pikeville performed against their schedule and it hasn't been good.

Bottom line, as of right now I'd maybe have them ahead of Paris but no one else. Considering the hurdles they've faced this year that isn't necessarily bad.

I'd move them up to behind Raceland. I never said anything about performance, in the 4A thread they said it was based on performance and not W/L.

But Pikeville is being punished because they don't play a soft schedule. Paintsville, Belfry, and Lex Christian are all Top 4 teams in their respective classes. Holy Cross and Paris would get running clock put on them by 2 of those teams easily.

How is Pikeville being Punished?

Preseason started out at 9th,

Week 1 stayed at 9th

Week 2 moved down to 10th

Week 3 stayed at 10th

Week 4 stayed at 10th

Week 5 moved up to 9th

So tell me how they are punished?

They beat the worse Covington Holy Cross team in sometime.
