I would put Nicholas at the top of my let downs for the season. Good win for Bourbon!

With 1:01 to go in the game, Bracken County was called for a technical foul, and within a few seconds, the entire team and coaching staff made their way to the locker room. I haven't heard any official explanation yet, but this won't end well for the Polar Bears.

Also, this is a tough job. Hunter Cantwell was here and went about .500, then he moved to CAL and obviously, things changed. The landscape is getting tougher, not better.

I don't know of anyone with qualms with the admin. Admin issues could be the case, but I think it's more likely another issue: location. Carroll is close enough to Lexington, Louisville and NKY that coaches see it as "possible" then spend a year or so living that commute, and realize exactly how tough it is. Not suggesting that the only option is a local coach, but they keep hiring coaches who are commuting 45min+ every day and it's not usually sustainable.

Honestly, one of the quietest weeks of the season for the Tenth Region. Not much movement, and not many marquee matchups. So the rankings didn’t change much, a minor shakeup in the 39th district, but other than that, everything was just as expected. This week I expect more of the same, predictable, and top-heavy. 1.) George Rogers Clark ?|| (19-4) Lexington Catholic stunned me with the 6-point win, but the Cardinals rebounded nicely with wins over Bourbon, Madison Southern, and Danville Christian. This week, Great Crossing hosts a battle of the birds, and then a Valentines Day date with Mercer Co. 2.) Montgomery County ?|| (12-10) Props to Coach High (and Coach Feldhaus) for scheduling a last-minute game of Blue, Red, and White Indians. The Montgomery ones feel short, 74-69, but then rebounded nicely with dominant wins over Flyght Academy and Nicholas County. Austin Sears brings a new energy to Mt Sterling. They’re gunning for the rematch with GRC in the district tourney. 3.) Campbell County ?|| (17-8) The Camels took one on the chin from Holy Cross. Then showed everyone what they are made of with a great win over 8th Region foe Simon Kenton. Then won over an intra-county rival in NCC. This week, it’s Ryle and then Nicholas County. 4.) Nicholas County ? || (16-7) I have, all season, wanted the BlueJackets to pull a rabbit out of a hat, but the magic just isn’t there. They can throttle most anyone below them on this list, but the ones above them are far, far above. They beat Pendleton by 10, but then lost handily to Montgomery. This week it’s: Harrison, then Bourbon, and then Campbell, followed by Pendleton. I see 3-1 on the week, but it’s a big, looming 1. 5.) Bishop Brossart ? || (11-10) The Mustangs have excelled down the stretch, even after a hiccup this week against St. Henry. Boone and Eminence were on the menu this week, and the Mustangs ate well. This week it’s Calvary, Mason, Harrison and Ryle. I like Brossart in all but Ryle. 6.) Bourbon County ?|| (15-9) This 6-8 spot with Bourbon, Scott, and Calvary is pretty interchangeable. All 3 had big bumps in the road this week. Bourbon took a thumping from the Cards and Wolfe County. But handled Paris well. This week, it’s Montgomery, Nicholas, and Harrison. 7.) Calvary Christian ?|| (16-7) The Cougs couldn’t handle the Bulldogs in their place, but responded well by winning a cat battle over the Bellevue Tigers. I am going to be in attendance for the game against Brossart on Monday, which will be a GOOD game. Then it’s Heritage and the NKAC Conference Tourney. 8.) Scott ? || (12-10) Tim Sullivan’s group hung one on Steve Fromeyer’s guys. Which, since Sullivan is a teacher in the building at Scott, probably made for an interesting day at school the next day… But the Eagles responded with a thrilling buzzer-beater win over Grant County. This week, the Eagles host Fleming County and then a trip down Pride Parkway, through 2 regions to their county foe- Simon Kenton. 9.) Pendleton County ?|| (11-10) Pendleton Memorial High School lost an important seed game to Nichoals, but then handled business against a struggling Harrison County. This week they see Augusta, Boone County, Mason County, and Nicholas County. A busy week for the Wildcats, and one that will have them ready for tournament time. 10.) Augusta ?(?4) || (7-11)RPI has them neck and neck now, but a 3-point win puts them over the Polar Bears for me. A good week with wins over St Pat and Bracken. This week it’s Pendleton, and a rematch with mason who beat them 92-84 early this year. But Augusta is trending upward, Mason is… not. 11.) Bracken County ?‍❄️(?1) || (11-10) The only game this week played in Bracken County was against the Panthers, and Hinson’s bunch shocked the county with a 3-point win. Fleming, Bath Menifee is a lot of dead dinosaurs for school buses in 4 days, followed by a trip north to Villa. The Bracken County Caravan will be getting a workout this week. 12.) Paris ? || (3-16) A win over Harrison County sandwiched beatdowns from Henry Clay and Bourbon County. Tough sledding in Paris for a young team. 13.) Mason County ?(?1) || (3-15) It’s safe to say at this point, tradition graduated, got married, had a few kids, and now lives elsewhere. Because things are just BAD on the hill. Lloyd had their way with Mason, including a record-setting 51 from Anthony Blaackar. Brossart, Augusta, Pendleto,n and Madison Southern make this a full week. 14.) St Pat ?|| (7-12) Mason County got their revenge, and Augusta, and Portsmouth took the scraps. Rough week in Maysville. This week sees Fleming, a hapless Robertson, and a weak Trinity Christian team. Could be 10-12 by the end of the week. 15.) Harrison County ?(?4)|| (5-17) The only place where things are more bleak than Maysville might be Cynthiana. Paris won by 5, and then Pendleton took them to the woodshed. Nicholas, Brossart, Augusta, and Bourbon all looking to take big bites out of the Thorobreds. 16.) Robertson County ?|| (1-20) I asked ChatGPT for a word worse than bleak, and it refused to answer. Tough times in Mt. Olivet. At least the kids are putting out effort every night.

I’ve heard both that it’s only open as a formality since he retired from teaching, and that other people are being considered. Not sure who to believe.

I love any time a kid is a D1 athlete in another sport and still plays his heart out. Such a throwback anymore. Props to him!

Big win for Coach Strait and company. Paris is young, so any win builds good momentum.

Holy Cross is playing well, but I don't think they have anyone near as good as Austin Davie. Camels by 20.

Shout out to @brooksville who correctly predicted the red white and blue MC Indians would win. Fun game to take in. Definitely proves MoCo is worth keeping an eye on.

Austin Sears' eligibility was supposed to give the Indians a jolt, but they're 0-2 since he stepped on the floor. That can probably be chalked up to rust and familiarity with the team. Does the tide turn tonight? Or are Mr. Basketball candidate Jake Feldhaus and the Tribe too much? Who wins the battle of the Indians tonight in Richmond? I might have to take this one in!

I'll be interested to see who fills out the staff. I heard he has called Nelson Perrin a few times, not sure who else stays or joins him

This week, we got part deux of GRC-MoCo, but mostly a light smattering of games as winter weather played havoc on the schedules. The biggest result of the week could be the Brossart/Scott game, as it had major seeding implications. Snow and weather left a lot of teams at home on the couch all week-- this week has everyone playing catch-up. Lots to still shake out. 1.) George Rogers Clark ?|| (16-3) The only game on the Cardinals' schedule this week was the one they wanted to the most. And they got it. 71-70. A battle in every sense of the word. Beating a team twice is possible, but it’s entirely within the realm of possibility that they will have to beat MoCo 2 more times. The next one is for district, but the big one for a trip to Rupp. 2.) Montgomery County ?|| (10-9) Austin Sears’ eligibility was much awaited, but he is 0-2 in red white and blue. The GRC loss was close, the Ashland loss can probably be explained away with exhaustion 24 hours after an emotional loss. Curious to see how the older Sears fits in and leads the team forward. Nicholas County is the only team on their schedule this week 3.) Campbell County ?|| (15-6) The Camels lost to CovCath, beat Community Christian, and as of this writing haven't yet finalized the game with Highlands. They're playing well. Davie is a force at 23PPG. You can never count out the Camels. 4.) Nicholas County ? || (15-6) The only game the Bluejackets played this week was against Cellar Dweller Robertson County and they handled business well. This week they’ve got a much tougher slate. Western Hills, a seeding game against Pendleton and then Montgomery County. We’ll learn a few things this week. 5.) Bishop Brossart ? || (9-9) Bishop Brossart is in the drivers seat for the 37th. After defeating the Camels, they have now defeated the Eagles and I believe hold the #1 seed. This week Calvary, Boone, Eminence and St Henry come calling. The Mustangs are peaking down the stretch. Look out! 6.) Bourbon County ?(?1)|| (14-7) The Colonels climbed a spot simply by virtue of not losing any games. They didn’t win any either, but hey— take what you can get. This week they Take on Wolfe County and then two major seeding games with GRC and Paris. Hopefully they rested well this week. 7.) Calvary Christian ?(?1)|| (15-6) 2-0 any week is a good week! The Cougars are playing well, and could surprise someone somewhere. Holmes, Brossart, Bellevue and Bracken this week. A 4-0 week is possible, and then we’re staring at almost 20 wins. They last hit that mark in 2022. 8.) Scott ?(?2) || (11-9) A tough week for the Eagles. A 9 point loss to Brossart immediately followed by a buzzer beater loss to Holmes. The schedule doesn’t get any easier. Holy Cross and St Henry followed by Grant County. Definitely digging deep in Eagle-land. 9.) Pendleton County ?|| (9-9) No action in Falmouth this week. Robertson County, Campbell County, Nicholas County, Harrison County all on the schedule for this week. We’ll know a whole lot more about the Wildcats come next week. 10.) Bracken County ?‍❄️ || (11-9) Bracken finds themselves somewhere they have never been: The 1 seed for district. After wins over St Pat and Mason they are the likely top dog. This week RULH Augusta, Fleming, Lloyd and Calvary all want a piece of the glacier. 11.) Harrison County ?|| (5-15) The only result this week for the ‘Breds was a win over Robertson County. Paris and Pendleton this week. Hopefully the rest has refreshed their legs.. 12.) Paris ? || (2-14) Things were quiet in Paris this week. No games. Henry Clay, Harrison and Bourbon this week. I see a win coming near the Eiffel Tower. 13.) St Pat ?|| (7-8) Almost having the 1 seed would have been a story book moment for St Pat. Bracken held on though. This week, Augusta, Robertson and Mason loom large. 14.) Mason County ?|| (2-14) No one was happier for the weather causing scheduling issues than the Royals. No games last week. This week they see Beechwood, a revenge game at St Pat and then Lloyd. 15.) Augusta ?|| (5-11) Ice and Snow do not equate to Panther weather. This week it’s St Pat, Bracken County, Huntington Expression Prep and Holmes. 16.) Robertson County ?|| (1-19) Not a fun time to be a Black Devil. Perhaps another W is coming when Williamstown hosts them Friday.

GRC 34. Montgomery County 25. Halftime. Akins with 10 points for GRC. Andrew Terry with 8 points for Mo. Co.

That number is not accurate, first of all. Turner was at Scott until 2023. Then the Owen hire— which any reasonable person would have seen as a good hire, with crazy extenuating circumstances. Hensley filled in in the interim, and then Franklin. Franklin wasn’t working out, they moved on. (One of my sources tells me that wasn’t a Scott decision; that came from the District.) Given the parameters they’re working in, they’re doing fine. Overall? Scott’s athletic program is solid. Baseball, Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer have all been in the state final 4 in the last 10 years. Football is the outlier. But Owen’s been in two state title games back in Florida. Who’s to say that doesn’t happen here?

If Sears is playing that momentum alone leads MoCo to victory. I might have to head over to this one!
