9th Region Quarterfinals Review GRC 84 – Pendleton 42 The dream of Pendleton's buzzer beater district title turned quickly into a nightmare at the Fieldhouse. GRC dominated every facet of the game and left Pendleton gasping for air. Ashford, Gay, Thomas, Barteson and Johnson all had double figures for the Cards. Montgomery Co 91 -- Bracken Co 39 Bracken's late-game collapse in the district final carried a bigger hangover than expected. They were never in the game, and Coach King's last game as a Polar Bear ended in unceremonious fashion. Austin Sears led the Indians with 22, Jarvis had 18 Terry 14 and Gentry 11. Scott 84 -- Mason Co 57 Ben Brown's first trip to the Fieldhouse was not his last. He had 19 points and 7 assists. Johnie Boyd exploded for 28, and Jordan Clemons had 16. Scott handled Mason Co well, and now faces a giant band of Cardinals. Campbell Co 85 – Nicholas Co 56 4 Quarterfinals, 4 mercy rules. Cue the jokes about too many teams in the playoffs. Camels made light work of the Nicholas Co Bluejackets. Austin Davie put up 23, Lucas Anthrop gave 17. Camels now looking at MoCo with vengeance on their mind. Semi-Finals Preview GRC--Scott The pundits have already put GRC into the finals, but the Eagle faithful remains hopeful. There is always a shot, that's why they roll the ball out and play the game. But the whole world seems to be leaning towards GRC. I think GRC wins, but Scott gives them everything they can handle and more. Steve Fromeyer has never gone into a game without thinking his team has a chance. Campbell Co-- MoCo This could be one of the best games in the state tonight. Sowder v High. Davie v Sears. 37th v 40th. I have no idea who comes out on top. But I do know whoever it is will come into Tuesday exhausted. Championship Preview: It's a slight advantage, but GRC has the benefit of the earlier game, which is meaningful when an hour long bus ride home, a school day, and an hour long busride back make for a long 24 hours. Whoever wins MoCo/Campbell will have less in the tank, but that won't make it any less of a battle. Will be one to watch, with fieldhouse popcorn in hand.

Tonight. 6PM Mason County Fieldhouse I'll say GRC wins by 15, but Scott hangs tough in the first half.

Tonight 8PM Mason County Fieldhouse I am of the opinion that Campbell makes MoCo work for every point, but MoCo wins by 10.

I’ve heard there were several other off court issues as well. I don’t know who they hire, but I expect Owens Crawford and Robert Myrick to be in the mix for this if they don’t get the Mason job.

Based on what I’ve heard from others, Feldhaus, Gilbert and Sullivan are all not interested. Who knows what will happen though.

Gilbert is on the list. I know Jason Hinson has been interested in the past. There is always the rumor of Allen Feldhaus Jr. coming home.

Reliable sources in the 10th Region telling me that Terry King has been relieved of his duties as coach at Bracken County.

From Kennadi Kirk Facebook: I know this is a long post, (added to a previous post) but I promise it’s worth reading. I feel best you hear it from me, his daughter first. We love our dad! To say the least, you’d be surprised at what comes with the game of basketball. You’d think it’s just two goals and two teams with one orange ball. However, there comes ups and downs, wins and loses, best friends and enemies, tears and laughter and so much more. So far, my dad has been a coach for 20 years. Twenty years (and I’m 21) he has put his all into the game of basketball to do what he loves. The dedication he has will never be matched by some. In these years he’s had to make some really tough decisions, but also a lot of very easy decisions. The name calling, harassment, bashing, threatening and whatever else towards my father has NEVER slowed him down. Besides the negative aspect that being a coach comes with that you can’t control, coaching also has lots of lost time he has missed out on with his family. He doesn’t do this because he’s forced to, he does this to be able to put his all into being a coach and giving kids what they deserve. There have been many many late nights of being stuck in a gym until midnight, many many early morning practices, not getting home until late evenings on days he has practice, hours spent traveling on a bus, watching film at the house and so much more that nobody sees. But, throughout everything his family, friends, and people he doesn’t even know exist have supported him and loved him as much as they could. Within dad’s 20 years of coaching he has made some big accomplishments with a great coaching staff and team of athletes that stand behind him and believe in him. • 10th Region Hall of Fame Inductee 2010 • He has won 205 games (143 of those wins being at Mason County) • Won the 2016 District Championship at Augusta •Has won the last EIGHT District Championship games at Mason County. • 2023 KY 2A Championships Boys Basketball State CHAMPS! • 10th Region Coach of the Year 2016, 2021 and 2023 • KABC 2021 and 2023 With that being said, there has been some very extremely hard and difficult days within our family. After now 20 years of dedication, sacrifice, and love for the game and kids he has coached, dad has been let go from his coaching position. There was no real explanation that could justify the amount of time, heart, and effort he has poured into this program. Sometimes in life decisions are made not made based on character, hard work, or end results, but on [redacted], SELFISHNESS, COWARDS, AND PERSONAL OPINIONS. Some people can’t accept the truth being said to them, but would rather bring someone else down than accept defeat upon themselves. What many of you may not know is that over the past year our family has also been facing one of our hardest battles. My mom has been very sick and has been fighting through serious health issues for over a year now, receiving no answers of what is causing her body to decline. Undergoing one surgery, and an immediate second surgery almost losing her life due to a surgical mess up, 1000 of doctor’s appointments later, and no improvements in her body. Despite everything going on at home and in our personal life, my dad never stopped showing up for his players, his team, his program, and even the school district. He carried the weight of worrying about his family, and dealing with all the hatred received from different people while still giving everything he had to those kids and to the game he loves the most. But if there’s one thing I know about my dad, it’s that a title will never define who he is. Coaching was never just a job for him, it was a passion and a calling that he loved doing even on the hardest days. The impact he has made on hundreds of kids over the last 20 years, and 8 years being at mason county cannot be taken away by one decision. The lessons he’s taught, the relationships he’s built, the confidence he’s given young athletes, and the memories created in those gyms will last far beyond any season he has had. While this chapter of our lives has ended, it does not erase all that he has done. The wins, the championships, the FIGHT BACK THIS YEAR, the long nights, early mornings, bus rides, laughter, and tears, every bit of it mattered. And most importantly, the players and coaches who believed in him and the community that has supported him will always know what he truly stood for. Forever will be proud to call him my dad. Not because of what he’s done, or the awards he has received, but because of the man he is, the coach he was to so many young athletes, and the example he continues to set even through hatred. This may be the end of one chapter, but I promise you insensitive people will NEVER be able to completely bring him down. Mason county, DO BETTER ?

I guess they could they took them to the wire a few weeks ago. But, since then Campbell hasn't let a team within 30 and Nicholas has 4 losses. I think they're trending different directions.

It's March, and all eyes in the 10th descend on the legendary Mason County Fieldhouse. The Popcorn is fresh, the fans are ecstatic and everyone is ready for one of the best weeks of the year up on the hill. Let's recap the district tournaments that got us here, and make a few prognostications about the week. The truth is, barring a miracle, there are 3 teams that have a shot at escaping the Fieldhouse with nylon in their hands, but, that's why they play the games. 37th District: A little bit of regular-season chaos made the seedings interesting, with Brossart as 1, and Scott as 4, but everyone knew to expect the unexpected in this rematch, and they were right. The Eagles stole, literally, the victory right out from under the Mustangs in the final seconds to secure their spot in the championship. The Camels easily handled Calvary, and then went on to easily handle Scott in the Championship. 38th District: The stunner here came in the championship. Pendleton and Nicholas both felt pretty confident there would be a 3rd rematch, and it was one for the ages. They'll be talking about that shot at Pendleton Memorial a long time from now, and they'll remember this championship. The Bluejackets overall played well, but I think most pundits would say they underperformed this season. They have a chance to prove everyone wrong at the region this week, 39th District: The district that was thought to perhaps have the most parity in it's tournament this year... and somehow for the 22nd time in 25 years, still crowned the Royals as champions. Mason County dispatched Augusta easily in the opening round, as the Panthers really struggled late into the year, and then Bracken County took care of the Saints and Lex Turner COTY talk died down, the entire city of Brooksville descended on Maysville, assuming this was the year. BC hadn't cut a net since 1997, and the entire county was ready. Up 7 with :38 to go the buzz was building, and somehow, Brian Kirk pulled magic out of his hat, again. After being forced into overtime, the Polar Bears melted and lost to the Royals, again. 40th District. Montgomery County has had it's fair share of ups and downs this season. But they somehow, someway, found a way to take down GRC when it mattered most. We all know in October there would be 3, and likely 4 matchups between these two, and this is about how we expected them to go. MoCo won this one, the next one is the game that matters most though. Region Tournament Preview: The only game in question in the first round, in my humble opinion, is the first first round game between Mason County and Scott. I think Ben Brown and his 23.4 points per game will prove to be too much for the Royals, led by Ben Brookbanks 17 a game. The Royals are young and scrappy, but the road ends here for them. The other 3 games will most likely be running clocks. (Do too many teams make the playoffs in basketball?) But the next round will bring more excitement. GRC will easily handle their opponent, but Montgomery and Campbell will be a blood bath. Austin Davie had 20 last time in a losing effort, but the Indians were not yet at full strength, and Sears could be the difference maker to extend the margin even more. Campbell is playing well, and loves the region tourney, but it may not be enough to prevent armageddon part 4. The finals, if it does show to be a 4th match of the 40th, will be one for the ages. margins of 1, 6 and 7 in the first three matchups show us that there will be fireworks in the final. I fear MoCo might have fired their shot early, though, and GRC will be the ones climbing the ladder on Wednesday night.

That is QUICK. Why the rush?

GRC couldn’t have asked for better draw. Campbell and MoCo will be a war in round 2. Gonna be a fun week in Maysville.

To be blunt, in my opinion, the reason they didn't win more games the last two years is because it was "someone's turn." Tayden should not play QB, because that limits him offensively and defensively. The Armstrong kid is special, and between those two, Gabe Williams and a host of others, the more weapons on the field the better.
