Last year's Freshman team will have no effect one way or another on this year's 2014 team so maybe let's revisit that team when the 2015 thread comes out.

Whitford could certainly help @ WR, heard he was effective last year playing in some early JV games. Wonder when the "If only Highlands could get some of the Baseball players to come out for Football" thread will start. Kidding of course....

I would agree with you, just throwing it out there since @ Highlands they always seem to have guys that can contribute sitting on the bench and I wouldn't be able to make judgment until later in the summer what the talent separation is @ QB between Hoge and Hergott. Any chance Hergott can play some TE?

No, I just assumed it would be him or Kendall back there. A couple of more questions for the Highlands faithful: Will the WR rotation stick around this year? Will Josh Watson/Jakey Whitford play this year, if yes, where? Will anyone besides possibly Hebel play both ways? Urlage? I heard some talk about Daugherty playing some LB.

Any chance Hoge moves back to WR with Feggins leaving and the 6'4/5? Hergott taking over @ QB? Any chance we see the TE position come back? If yes who might play that position? Who will play center and will they ever go back to the QB under center? I personally would like to see it especially in the short yardage situations. Veneman returning punts should be fun to watch, the kid can fly!

Unfortunately that same parent took a shot @ Highlands as a whole (IMO) during his acceptance speech (even if it was just coach speak) However I'm willing to forgive and forget both comments and just move on. To the FB poster you would be crazy to think that Highlands won't miss a talent like Jensen and to Coach Feggins when you talk about "kids like that" I would imagine you're speaking about a bunch of hard working kids playing for a storied program in a great community that might be just a little slower I guess? I'm sure neither comments were meant to be harmful so let's just move on. Best of luck to Jensen and WC this year and Go Birds!

Good Luck to Jensen!, a great player and from what I have seen a pretty hard worker off the field. He will absolutely be missed next year by the Birds. IMO no negative comments would have ever come from the Birds community had it not been for the comments his Dad made about WC should never lose to Highland High School during his acceptance speech. I'm not sure if they will forget about that comment or not, either way I think he made the right move to get his family back together and have a chance to finish out his SR year with his Dad calling the plays.

That's fine, I guess the more I think about it I really do appreciate that uk#1fan has a strong interest in the Highlands Football program. Let's just hope he keeps his comments constructive.

Yes they do. Which game(s) do you think you will make it to this year? One of the srimmages against X or T, one of the Saturday games against Paducah or Columbus, maybe the Cov Cath game if moved to Thursday? or what about the Elder game, any chance you skip a SK game to attend that one? Highlands thanks you for your interest, I'm just hoping that one day I have a desire to attend a SK game.

Well they have won 6 out of the last 7 and only lost twice last year by a combined total of 6 points so I would say keep doing what you're doing. In regards to the kids you listed the only one I agree with would be Hayes, he would have been a nice addition in the defensive backfield last year considering IF he wanted to play back there. Harris was dealing with an injured arm all year from his hard nosed running so why risk him at LB and Beau is your back up QB so why risk him at DB? I know they tried to work in the Hayes kid at DB a couple of times last year late in the season because of injuries but for whatever reason the practice time for him just wasn't there. Regarding the kids on the sidelines that could have helped this all goes back to the question if a player is able to pick what side of the ball they choose to play @ Highlands. If there were kids sitting on the sidelines that could have helped on either side of the ball I would hope they will make a decision to switch this spring/summer.

Yes they were Friday night!!! And to think that was the same group of guys on Defense (for the most part)that pitched a shut out as Freshman 2 years ago in Independence 41-0. Good Luck in the playoffs!!

Yes, next year. The only player that I have seen on varsity, JV or freshman that would be of any benefit this year IMO would be Hayes.

You know what else was "painfully evident" and I'm positive was discussed at this morning's practice is the lack of defensive scheme adjustments after WC realized they could run to the outside. Better be willing to work on that should they face JC in the playoffs. I'm sure it will get fixed. Go Birds!

I thought at Highlands kids were able to choose which side of the ball they wanted to play on? Maybe moving forward some of the Freshman and JV speedsters will see an opportunity to get some playing time in the defensive backfield. Just depends on what the kid wants to do, although I will tell you playing DB or safety is either a "hero or zero" position, hopefully some will be up to the challenge rather than get caught up in a multiple wide receiver rotation. I do wonder why Hayes hasn't moved back there, wonder if he was given the opportunity and he declined? Would be very interested to hear the answer to that question.

Hayes could have helped out in the secondary for sure last night, not sure why he was wasted on the bench. If I'm Highlands I'm getting him some snaps back there leading up to the Elder game knowing that Harris will stay on the field most, if not all of the game.
