It pretty much goes without saying that Highlands is a powerhouse in Kentucky football. Still, with their team coming off of state championship upset at the hands of Collins HS, with the retirement of Dale Mueller and the handover of the program to his heir apparent, Coach Weinrich, plus the added transfer of one of their key returning players in Senior Jensen Feggins, will the 2014 season be the most best season for any of Highlands challengers to realistically come away with a victory?

For a select group of schools, yes. This will be their best chance in the last decade or so to beat FTH.

I think for about every year since the early 2000s I've been thinking "no way they can...." and yet they often do.

Actually, last year was the year to beat HHS and somebody did. Collins was the only team that was able to take advantage of HHS deficiencies on the defensive side of the ball. I'm not an HHS insider, but I'd bet that they will be better on that side of the ball this year.

I went with the second option. HHS will be on par with what they've had the past several years so it's going to be up to the competition to step up to beat them. Collins did last year so that has to give hope to others.

I would guess that the returning kids at FTH are a little tired of hearing about Collins and the retirement. They may play with a little extra fire this season. And, yes, that's bad news for everyone else on their schedule.

I'll let you know after we scrimmage them at St. X (Cincy)on Aug 22

I've had that same thought.

A great big "NOTED" for this yrs Highlands team...Just sayin

Won't see the full effect of Dale leaving for a few years. His players and system is still embedded in the upper classman.

I agree with this. This is still Highlands and still "Dale's Team" Until the day comes if it even does that the Birds show a slide for a few years 95% of Kentucky teams need to be ready for a beat down. I hate to say it but its the truth

Let me guess...if they win, well they should have this is still Dale's team after all. But if they lose it will be Weinrich's fault?

From the HHS faithful.....yes I believe that would be their reaction. Kind of lile Tubby winning with UK in 96'

Kinda unfair to Brian though isn't it?

It could be argued that Dales hoarding of players on offense last season was the reason they lost a game that they should have won easily. I know you guys are much closer to it, but it seemed to me like the D was a lot thinner than the O last season. Seemed like they rotated more players at receiver than the entire Defense did.

I never said that. Fact is kids for the last decade or so are at Highlands to play for Dale. BW has a difficult task of keeping the offense going full steam and it is his job to do so now. However, his role has ways been D - D/C as far as I know? So that is still what reflects on him the most.
