Boyle Co. Has a couple advantages on Hhs this year. 1 they have a better coach and proven, that is not debatable. The hhs coach maybe good but it has to be played out.He is not Chuck Smith. 2 the Boyle qb is better. So the 2 most important factors have to go to Boyle this year.

With regard to the coaching situation, no one is going to doubt how great a coach Chuck Smith is. However, I believe the last time he was the head coach of a high school team was in 2004, which is 10 years ago. I don't think he was on the Boyle County sideline doing any kind of coaching in the recent past. It's true that this is Brian Weinrich's first year as a head football coach at the high school level, but he has been on the HHS sideline every year for as long as the current HHS players have been alive (he joined the HHS coaching staff in 1995). I'd venture to say that his transition to the head coaching position at HHS will be smoother than Smith's transition back to the high school game.

 

Boyle County may or may not have advantages over Highlands in 2014, but I'd be surprised if coaching is one of them.

That has to be the biggest homer comment on here. It is not like chuck has not been coaching. How many linebackers does he have in the NFL

Despite the time away, how much as the game really changed? I don't expect Smith to miss a beat.

Didn't Smith Coach D last season somewhere? Coach Smith getting up to High School Speed will happen faster than the players getting up to his Speed so to speak.

Smith was the defensive coordinator at Bardstown last year.

It's not rocket science. Some of you act like if you are away from the HS game any amount if time you forget everything. Seriously folks, coaching football isn't brain surgery. I think Chuck Smith will be just fine.

We all know Higlands fans will have excuses if Highlands doesn't with it all this year, but after reading about all the advantages Higlands new coach has over one of the greats in Chuck Smith then we can at least agree that if Highlands loses then it can't be because of their new coach right?

I agree... That is why I don't think someone can give a clear cut advantage to Boyle County (or Highlands) in the coaching department heading into this season.

There is less pressure on Smith than Weinrich.

 

Boyle was 13-1 last season and lost in the playoffs in a game no one feels they should have lost. Boyle doesn't t lose much of anyone on the season and they bring in the one coach who brings in instant credibility from day one and turns up the intensity and sense of urgency to win from day one.

 

Highlands was state runner-up and lost in a fashion made for a movie. Weinrich inherits a machine and if that machine falters any at all it will be all his fault.

I'd give it to him now and in 10 years. He's not going to forget how to be a successful coach.
