Any chance Coach Wirth is holding a grudge against Highlands after they played Seniors (2) in last year's JV game @ Cov Cath? If that's the case I would hope him and Dale could discuss and get past any disagreements to get these kids on the field.

So I don't have to read 15 pages of this thread to find one answer can someone tell me if CCH cancelled any other JV games this year or just the 2 against HHS?

Making sure the cheerleaders are practicing on the side couldn’t hurt attendance. Seriously though if you’re a basketball player and you’re not pumped up for open gym this time of year especially after this past weekend of NCAA basketball games something is wrong, I can see numbers down in the summer but not this week.

BREAKING NEWS: Highlands AD Dale Mueller hires himself as the new head basketball coach. During the press conference Coach Mueller mentions that while he doesn't know much about coaching basketball he plans on keeping 25-30 guys on Varsity and going with a run and gun/full court press style of play. Practices will be held after football each night with a slight break inbetween so all football/basketball guys can attend. He said he is looking forward to a great year! JOKING OF COURSE HERE BGPer's. Seriously though has anybody heard how many have applied? Are we close to a hire?

Couldn't agree with you more on this one, maybe if the next coach doesn't have this trait they could always hire Kevin Nieporte as an assistant. I'm sure he would get some refs fired up. Just curious what you think are realistic expectations for this program?

Well as Steve Hunt's campaign manager I would probably say it isn't a good idea to call a team where he was an assistant as the "worst you have ever seen" and I know for a fact any player on the team would not appreciate those comments. I am not for or against Steve Hunt for the Varsity job, however I can't remember the last time an assistant from a "worst team anybody ever saw" was promoted to Head Coach the following year, also can't remember the last time a coach was given a Varsity job without ever being a head coach on any level. Maybe Steve could put his time in coaching the Freshman or JV team for a couple of years. Another question, does Steve work @ the school in any capacity? Do you think he would be able to convince those football only guys they should man up and play some bball? IMO that would be a deciding factor in choosing the next head coach, just would, especially @ Highlands where sometimes these kids get in their heads that they're worn out after 15 games and need the "time off"

I know its early on, however I am just curious if anyone knows if they plan on Hoge playing significant Varisty minutes @ WR then turning around and starting as the JV QB or will Hergott take over JV. Any other “arms” out there that people are seeing?

Welcome to the site Hobie, very bold first posting. Just curious, has Steve ever coached any boys team on any level? Also curious where your comments were all year while Highlands was struggling, I would have loved to have heard from someone so close to the coaching staff what was going on with that offense.

This isn't an issue with the right coach in place IMO or at least shouldn't be.

Simply NOT true!!! Winning changes a lot of opinions quickly. And yes if you are a young coach that doesn't want to work hard to develop this program and become one of the most "liked" coaches in Fort Thomas please do NOT apply.

I agree this is a "Steer Clear" job for any applicant that just wants to sit back and count the days until retirement. Hopefully Dale will take that into account this time around.

I was hibernating until football season JOAT, however I will throw my 2 cents in anyways. Like I've said all along I am hoping for a younger coach, that played at Highlands and/or has some vested interest in the community, keep in mind I don’t have a “dog in the race” so it’s really not that big of a deal to me other than for my enjoyment of watching good/competitive/entertaining High School basketball close to home. With that said, I’m not sure if Steve Hunt is that guy, however he very well could be and I would be happy for him if he was. I personally have witnessed Jim Hicks conduct summer open gyms @ Bellevue and I like his style, however I'm not sure if he would be an option given his lack of Varsity coaching experience. My ideal guy would be a Stephen Kowolonek (aged 7-10 years) from watching him conduct some open gyms @ the Armory over the summer I feel like he might have a coaching gig somewhere in his future. I personally feel a guy like that would be able to pull the couple of football only guys people talk about every year off that fence. Obviously that’s not an option at this time and I am sorry I cannot add more to this thread as I don’t know the Code’s, Listerman’s and Goetz’s, etc… Good Luck to whoever is chosen. Should we be looking for white or blue smoke coming from the cafeteria anytime soon?
