Jackson Bardo commits to UD

Featured Replies

Just Read a tweet from Jared Lorenzen congratulating Highlands DB Jackson Bardo on committing to University of Dayton. He will reunite with his brother QB Will Bardo and former Birds WR David Christian.

Congrats to Jackson!

CONGRATS.

Hopefully Dayton can become as good as they were just a short time ago.

Still find it hard to believe they refuse to upgrade the program.

Awesome. Good for him. Heck of a player, that's for sure.

Any chance of Dayton going full blown 1-AA (sorry, the new term will never catch with me) scholarship?

I know Austin Peay used to be in the Pioneer, then transitioned back to Full Scholly 1-AA and a return to the OVC a couple years ago..have done well, too. Maybe Co-Champs since their return possibly?

Congrats to Jackson. I thought he might try for a golf scolly, but this is a nice surprise.

I could not be happier for him. All the best to Jackson. GO FLYERS

Congratulations to Jackson and UD! Great addition to UD football team and nice for him and his family to see him join his brother Will there.

When I took in the high school game there this season, I again asked if anyone thought they would upgrade the football program. All I got was laughter followed by no the university is too cheap to put the needed money into it.

Take that for what you will.

^ Scholarship football costs a boatload of money. Most of the other Catholic schools in situations similar to UD (Marquette, Xavier, Saint Louis, etc.) dropped football years ago. We're hanging on by a thread.

Congrats to him for picking UD. It's a great place.

I understand the money.

I was only posting the reaction I got, when asking the question.

And I understand the reaction. The beginning of the end for football was when they moved from Baujan Field in the heart of campus (now reconfigured as a soccer stadium) to that monstrosity across the river in the late 70s. Then they cracked down on student tailgates in the early 1990s (as part of a larger crackdown on serious problems with Dayton's student party culture at the time). The final nail for football's popularity was when the same party culture problems led to the permanent cancellation of Homecoming in the fall of 2000.

Bringing football to a level where scholarship football is a viable option would be extremely difficult, but not impossible. Putting a football-fan culture back in vogue at the university would be a start and is going to take a long time and some serious effort on the part of a dedicated group of students and administrators.

Congrats to Jackson. Great kid and family. Nice to see Him get to continue his playing wand join his brother and David Christian. All the best to Jackson.

Congrats to Bardo and all the other Highlands seniors who have committed to play college ball! Question: did Braden Hicks commit to play football? I thought I saw where he did.

I believe Morehead St...

So, are there a total of 7 Highlands kids who committed to play football?
