Platooning at Highlands in 2014

Featured Replies

Wondering about the short-term future of platooning at Highlands.

Any predictions concerning if HHS will continue to maintain strict platooning in the 2014 season?

Will Highlands continue previous platooning strategy or adopt modified platooning with a few select athletes going both ways here and there?

I'd stay platooning if I had the players to do so.

Let's assume this modified platooning. Who plays both ways and where do they play? Interested to hear a few of these to be quite honest.

1. Bo Hebel OT/NT

2. Jensen Feggins WR/DB

3. Alex Venneman WR/DB

4. Jared Dougherty K/RB/LB

5. Tyler Robinson OL/DL

6. Jake Whittford WR/DB

7. Matt Gall OL/DL

These are some off of the top of my head..

If the ability/performance gap is wide between the one way player and the two way player, then it may make sense to play a played both ways at least for parts of a game. In general though, I would consider it a step backward to stop strict platooning.

I can buy the OL/DL guys as all were pretty solid OL's when they played frosh football. The skill guys I am not so sure about. It will be interesting to see how all of this works itself out over the next several months.

Nice discussion guys, but I think you have it all wrong. JMO

I do not see any players playing both sides of the ball in a game. They may have an offensive and a defensive position and be able to be switched more readily if there is a need due to injury or to sure up a position.

I think the coaching staff is looking for some roster flexibility, not to abandon the two platoon system.

I think not platooning would be a step backwards, unless the talent pool at Highland's is down for some reason. I believe most schools would love to be able to only play kids one way, they just aren't able to due to having less talent depth than Highlands, and a few other schools.

Is the talent pool running dry?

Not that I've heard of, and the numbers seem to be holding compared to prior years. I don't think we'll know anything until summer as to what Coach W intends to do.

Why does it have to mean the talent pool is running dry by not platooning every position?

You could have put Zach Harris at RB/LB this past season or the Hayes kid at RB/DB and still considered very deep.

Bo Hoge could have played WR/DB and not missed a beat.

I just dont understand why they have to be all or nothing to some of you?

I would be more concerned with the way it was last season when you had kids on the sidelines who could have given them a better chance at winning. JMO

Why doesn't U.K. play people both ways? If you have a limited amount of talent and need to get them on the field to win, why doesn't U.K. do it?
