No doubt. They had three solid 6-7 win seasons where they just came up short a couple times in the playoffs against Corbin and Garrard. Then they had three rough years. Rural. Small-er county school. Not very populated + having to share it's kids with Eminence (maybe short on numbers, but never on talent) Anybody that's actually lead a place like that knows how it goes. When you have a solid group coming through; make the most of it. When you don't? Hope there are people on your schedule worse than you.

Fire away. I'm sure there might have been other reasons; there always are under the surface reasons that aren't always aired..that's just what I know. One of the reasons I know that is because he personally told a few of us in a room about this time last year that the upcoming season was likely it (saying this coming off his best season there nonetheless).

His oldest son was a senior this past year; who was also their QB. I think him graduating had a lot to do with it. He wasn't forced out or anything; just chose to resign (he'd been the head coach for the last 6 years).

I went and did a little Eric Graves/Dudley Hilton comparison, and I want it to be known that is all I'm doing. So, if you read into it one way or another....that's on you. I personally know both men....one well...one really well. You can't argue Dudley's success over his entire career; to do that is foolish. And while his style of play is far from popular these days (why I have no idea, b/c there are a crap load of offensively challenged teams out there who are more "modern"...but, they get a pass-no pun intended- for whatever reasons). Hilton Record: 16-17 Playoff wins: 0 Record vs. Campbellsville: 1-1 (Graves coached in the '14 game. His last at TC) Record vs. LexCath/Campbellsville: 0-2 Wins over teams w/ winning record: 1 Graves Record: 13-22 Playoff wins: 0 Record vs. Campbellsville: 3-1 Wins over teams with winning records: 2 Record vs. LexCath/Boyle: 0-6 (I mention the Boyle/LexCath W-L because I think that Taylor loses to them regardless of who the coach is, and both did- one just more than the other due to the amount of time they were in the same district) Common Opponents Comparison Barren County Graves: 1-2, Hilton: 1-1 Campbellsville Graves: 3-1, Hilton: 1-1 Boyle County: Graves: 0-3, Hilton: 0-1 Green County: Graves: 0-1, Hilton: 3-0 LaRue County: Graves: 1-0, Hilton: 3-0 LexCath: Graves: 0-3, Hilton: 0-1 Marion County Graves: 0-3, Hilton: 3-0 Mercer County Graves: 0-3, Hilton: 0-3 ......not a lot of difference there. What one doesn't have, the other kinda does. There is only TWO opponents that BOTH had played the same amount of times to date, and that is Mercer and Green. Neither have/had beaten Mercer, while Graves went 0-3 vs Marion County while Hilton has gone 3-0. One could make the argument that LexCath/Boyle not being on the schedule for Hilton's tenure is the clear cut difference between the two. Put those two monster's on Taylor's schedule the last couple years which would account for FOUR games, and his/their record is is likely 12-21. IF that's the case; then advantage Graves' by 1%. I haven't compared the overall win% of teams they have both beaten, but the eyeball test tells me it's the same. I also haven't compared the overall strength of schedule vs all opponents in their respected tenures, but here is GUESSING that advantage (or disadvantage) goes to Graves (the Boyle/LexCath effect). I think the BIGGEST thing you can take away from this is the largest pink elephant there is in the room when trying to have success at MANY of our rural-county schools in this state: Hope/Try to play people worse than you.

You don't really know until you get in there and are able to check things out for yourself to see. Sometimes that means a yes, sometimes a no.

Which is where Shawn Jackson was the head coach for a few years....ironic (very well might have no connection at all, but still).

I think there has been a lot of McCracken going after some of these people instead of the other way around. One reason I say that is b/c I know of one that they called within a couple of days within this thing being open, and they respectfully declined. Somebody made the comment earlier about it being a place you can come to and win 8-10 games on the regular with little to no real pressure of winning a region title, let alone a state title. That would be ideal for a lot of people. There is a whole lot to be said for that. However, the coaches they are targeting are already at places that not only win, but have won it all or have a legit chance of doing that on a yearly basis.

They do need some stability for sure. If they have to twist people's arms; then they probably need to keep moving down the line. I wouldn't read much into his job hopping, though. He left Warren Central knowing what was about to happen there, and he was right. PT? See my above or any of the threads the last 10 years.

How so? I get the easy to poke at him (I guess) for not winning a region title, but Bowling Green and Christian County would keep a lot of people from doing that (while at Warren Central). Then, PT? That place seems to have deeper issues going on than who the coach is.

Can't confirm, but that sounds very believable and hoping its true. Dang glad to see it if so.

That 2013 Bourbon team didn't finish 2-8 the year before like the '97 Bourbon team that ended up winning it all. @Hatz said it; they had some crazy stuff play in their favor the first couple rounds of the playoffs, but nonetheless..they pulled off the unthinkable and won the whole thing

Lowndes Co GA until a couple years ago, Cambden Co GA and Grayson GA who finished 2nd in the nation this year (even when they went spread). Oh, and Central Hardin who they are 0-2 against in the playoffs (CH was for one of those wins).

I'm not sure how anybody in their right mind could be upset with him. If they are, they might want to look at their own selves the next time they look into another job that could better themselves/family.

A lot of truth there. But also the roots they create if not maybe from where they've coached for years. I mention it every year, but you don't see coaches playing leap frog much these days. It's a lot to uproot families for a profession that doesn't offer any real financial significance to do so.

5th Region Don Pitts of Elizabethtown and Todd Thompson of Central Hardin have been the kings as of late. Eric Allen of LaRue County has done an outstanding job. I hope he and the Hawks win the region this year, and they can. They have gone through some big time growing pains in recent years. They finally broke through last year, and I expect that to be even better this year and in 2018. This 2017 and 2018 classes at LaRue County are full of multi sport kids; some are even three sport athletes. Many of them have been starting on all of their respected teams there since they were all freshmen (or 8th graders).

Yep. But with KTRS, you can only make X % in relation to what you are making already in retirement..."your threshold " whatever that might be for you. As Cats said, they could give him a 100 day teaching contract + coaching and he could roughly make 50K+ at McCracken. They have a slew of stipends for football. Shawn Jackson I KNOW was making $18,500 and maybe more. He was getting the $13,500 for the HC and also the $6,000 for being the OC.

@gchs_uk9 said it, but her daughter is a freshmen at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi & the soul reason she resigned from East Jessamine was so that she could spend time as a fan/parent being able to go watch her when she wanted. She had actually taken a job with the State Department of Education about a year ago with the History department side of things. I'm not sure what happened with it, but then she became the head of curriculum at Nelson County High School. She loves coaching...LOVES & has the resume both playing AND coaching to back it up. I'd say whether or not she is the coach after this season is absolutely on her, but I'd be willing to bet that she will choose to step to the way side in a couple months given the above.

Deserved. Fortunately (or really unfortunately :lol2:) I was able to see him up close and personal. First class young man, also from everything I hear...which is to be expected when getting accepted to Annapolis. Best of luck to you Jamale in all that you do!
