Is Mayfield's Joe Morris looking to leave the Cardinals?

Featured Replies

In the McCracken County job opening his name was mentioned.

I am told from someone in the know that Coach Morris did in fact explore the McCracken job.

Additionally, is Coach Morris ready to retire meaning he can double dip by leaving Mayfield?

If he could be able to build a 6A Dynasty out in the state, it would be great for Kentucky High School Football.

Amen JD!

If he could, regardless of win total, I'd put him as the best coach in the history of the state. Period.

I agree, if he could replicate any semblance of the success he has had at Mayfield he would have to be considered one of if not the best ever.

That'd be a homerun hire. More $ and better facilities for him, but I can't see him leaving Mayfield.

He could technically retire and do a 100 day contract or some other type of deal that would be a fraction of his current salary. To truly double dip and max out the $$ he'd have to leave the state.

But Coach Morris could still double dip and Net more money than he is currently making, correct?

More money total, yes.

Yep.

But with KTRS, you can only make X % in relation to what you are making already in retirement..."your threshold " whatever that might be for you.

As Cats said, they could give him a 100 day teaching contract + coaching and he could roughly make 50K+ at McCracken.

They have a slew of stipends for football. Shawn Jackson I KNOW was making $18,500 and maybe more. He was getting the $13,500 for the HC and also the $6,000 for being the OC.

To make it easier for everyone, could you speculate on what he is currently making (it is public record everyone) and what he could potentially make by switching head football coaching jobs and staying in KY?

He can theoretically retire and "double dip" at Mayfield just like he could at McCracken. With McCracken being a larger district, there may be more opportunities for attractive 100 day jobs.

Heard today he can make roughly 70-75K at McCracken. then he can take a % of his Mayfield retirement now and make $120K/year. And since it's a classified job at another school, he doesn't have to sit out a certain amount of time. He can work right away. As a Tilghman guy, I can't win on this scenario. But that would be great for those stangs.

He has met with McCracken and I also heard he was supposed to meet with Mayfield.

Very interesting. With him being able to retire there may not be a better time for him to see what else is out there.

There is no way he would be allowed to make 70k by the ktrs. That's too high of a percentage. There are laws about this. That's why double dipping can only truly be maxed out in a different state.
