His thoughts are the same as any other high school coach. Someone offers to talk to you and you listen. You then gather info or he may already had info or knew what he wanted. Anyway go back filter everything and then decide and give that other school your answer.

 

Mayfield should be proud other schools want their coach. That's ok.

 

I commend him for staying and making the right choice for him and his family. If he changes his mind one day that's ok too. But to ask what's going on in his head. He's just like any other championship coach they want to keep winning.

I'm not sure how anybody in their right mind could be upset with him. If they are, they might want to look at their own selves the next time they look into another job that could better themselves/family.

McCracken has made their hire and it was not Coach Morris. Do we have any word on whether it was Coach Morris or the school that ended negotiations?

Coach Morris turned them down as he did not want to leave Mayfield at this time. He wants to be the all time leader in wins in Kentucky and will retire when this is done.

By my count, Coach Morris is currently at 212 wins as head coach at Mayfield. I don't believe he has any prior head coaching experience (although I could be mistaken about that). That puts him 205 wins behind Belfry's Coach Haywood, who is still actively coaching. Without taking any future wins by Coach Haywood into account, Coach Morris would have to have 14 undefeated seasons in order to pull ahead of Coach Haywood.

 

My understanding was that Coach Morris' ability to retire and "double-dip" was the impetus of the discussion about taking the McCracken job...so if he is already up for retirement, is he honestly looking to extend his coaching career by another decade and a half?

I would say Joe Morris has not said his goal is to retire as the all time wins leader...not that he wouldn't like too.
