Bowling Green High School's Jamale Carothers named Kentucky Mr. Football

According to @Jason Frakes with the Courier Journal, Jamale Carothers, senior RB from Bowling Green High School has been named the 2016 Mr. Football winner.

As big a hole as I dug for the AP concerning the process for the award, I appreciate their efforts in this selection.

@Jason Frakes thank you for your efforts for this award. Any stinging AP language I may have said was certainly not directed at you.

SO HAPPY for Jamale! A fierce competitor on the field and a humble gentleman off it. Obviously as a Purple supporter I'm estatic about this selection!!! :dancingpa:dancingpa:dancingpa

@PurplePride92 bring out the purple kool-aid!!!

Congrats to Jamale! Well deserved and the AP couldn't go wrong with this selection. However, the AP All-State is so biased for and against certain parts of the state. For instance, there's either no voters or only 1 voter from NKY and thereby NKY gets very little attention and very few kids on the All-State team. Just an opinion!

Great selection for Mr. Football! Great to see local talent win the award!

Well deserved indeed.

Hope he has a long and successful career at Navy and beyond!

Was one of my favorite players to follow in KY.

I thought Jamale had a fantastic season and certainly deserves the honor. Congratulations to the Purples

Deserved.

Fortunately (or really unfortunately :lol2:) I was able to see him up close and personal. First class young man, also from everything I hear...which is to be expected when getting accepted to Annapolis.

Best of luck to you Jamale in all that you do!

This is awesome!!!! I didn't think he would get it but I was hopeful it would be him!!!! Congratulations, Jamale and thank you for your service!!!!!!

Congrats to Mr. Carothers, looking forward to following his career also.

Very much Congrats!!:dancingpa

Congrats to this young man, very well deserved. Some great candidates and it sounds like this young man is a top notch individual. I think that Walker Wood would have been my choice, but it sounds like we got a great one in Jamale, best of luck to him at Navy, big honor.

I knew before the season began that Jamale would be a finalist for the award with a real shot of winning it if he broke the BGHS records. I too think they got it right.

This may not mean much to many but what sealed the deal for me was week 2 of the playoffs against Christian County. BG was really struggling. I mean REALLY struggling early in the game. I can't remember exactly how it went down but for a series or two it got pretty chippy. Caruthers was running the ball, got the first down and was going to run out of bounds. There was a late hit on him (near the BG bench) and a handful of players from BG on the sideline was running toward the pile (animated!) Caruthers quickly jumped up and motioned for the players to get back. Running back toward the huddle, he padded the player that hit him and they shook hands. It all happened in about 10 seconds. That is the kind of kid we are talking about.

I know all the others that were candidates for the award were just as deserving.

Congrats Jamale!
