  1. I believe they called it a dislocated elbow, but, I'm not 100% on that.. Looks like he'll miss the next 4 weeks or so, maybe more, but, he'll be back before the playoffs and maybe by the Caldwell game.
  2. Beating Cooper and Boyle Co are good wins, but, I'd take Central's wins over St X and CAL as better wins.. I also think Central's loss to Manual is better than LCs loss to Ryle.. Just saying if what they've done to this point hasn't already put them ahead of Central, not sure those 2 wins would. I could see them beating both and still not moving up any, because Belfry could have 2 quality out of state wins over the next 2 weeks and a close win over Boyle may not hurt Boyle that much, as long as they just have the one close loss. Still a good resume for the Rebels and doubt they'd move below 2-3..
  3. IMO, Garrard Co should be ahead of Bell Co.. At 4-1, with their only loss being a 1 point loss, 31-30, to a ranked and undefeated 4a Shelby Co team, should have merited them more consideration, imo..
  4. The thing about McCracken is that they play the type of game that is going to give Mayfield trouble.. They have a very good passing game and several bigger receivers to go up and get it.. Mayfield has very quick DBs that can go toe to toe with most receivers from a speed standpoint, but, they're also on the short side, so, those tall WRs can be troublesome, plus McCracken has a good enough OL to keep the pressure off the QB.. It also doesn't hurt that their QB is pretty shifty in his own right, so, he's not one to go all out on the blitz, because if he finds a crease, he can break off a big play with his legs. Mayfield typically does very well against primarily running teams because they have 4 really solid LBs that play sideline to sideline about as good as you can and they're all sure tacklers..
  5. Losing Bright hurts, but, Tyler is a more than capable backup. As far as losing the LB and DB, I think they'll be fine as those are 2 deep positions for the Cards. Unless Corbin can mix a semblance of a passing game to go along with a running game, I like Mayfield's chances. They're very good against the run, but, have been susceptible against good passing teams with taller receivers. The Card secondary is quick, but, not much size. I was impressed with the pressure that the Card D put on Graves Co last week when they tried going to the air. Mathis was pretty much running for his like all night. With Bright out, Arnett will need to be sharp in the passing game. I think he will be.. Mayfield 31 Corbin 10
  6. These are the teams I'd favor should they play today: 6a - Male/Trinity/Scott Co/S.Kenton/B.Station/Manual/St X 5a - BGreen 4a - JCentral/S.Warren 3a - none 2a - none 1a - none I think it'd be a toss up vs McCracken Co, Ryle, Pulaski Co, Fern Creek, Desales. Belfry, Mayfield, Central, Lex Cath... Boyle could certainly beat any of those last 9, but, they could just as easily lose to them. They could also beat several of those teams above, but, imo, they'd lose more times than they'd win against them.
  7. I'd love to see a Fern Creek/Boyle matchup. Would be an outstanding game. I also think a Desales/Boyle or a Mayfield/Boyle would be great games. I know Boyle is very, very good this year, but, someone said they thought they were a Top 3 team in the state in any class, I think that's giving them a little too much credit. IMO, there's at least 7 6a teams alone I'd favor over them, another 4 teams in 5a and 4a and maybe another 2-3 teams in the other classes I'd give an advantage to. In saying that, that's still saying they're a Top 15 team or so in the entire state which isn't bad at all..
  8. I watched some highlights of the Fern Creek/Manual game and those guys had athletes comparable to Manuals. Personally, wouldn't surprise me to see Fern Creek win 5a this year. The only thing about them, they aren't real big in the trenches and teams like BG and Pulaski could exploit that, but, other than that, they have equal if not better skill players. Actually, FC and Mayfield have very similar teams. They both possess a lot of athletes, speed and skill guys, but, lack a little size in the trenches. Both have solid defenses. I'd give FC the depth and size advantage and Mayfield the advantage in the kicking and passing game.
  9. Need a big play Rams.. Don't have to get it all in one play..
  10. I think I like SWarren as the #1 over JC right now.. Either can make a great case, but, I believe SWarren's D would stop JCs running attack and that'd be the difference.. If JC were more versatile and could beat you thru the air, then I'd likely give them the nod.. I think JCs offense is better overall, but, in my book, a great D will win you more championships than a great O will..
  11. 5 - Franklin Co 3 - Elizabethtown 3 - Central Hardin 1 - Beechwood 1 - Garrard Co 1 - Lex Catholic 1 - Henry Clay 1 - Hopkinsville 1 - West Jessamine 1 - Spencer Co TB - 70
  12. The Next 10: DESALES J.CENTRAL BOYLE CO PRP MCCRACKEN CO LAFAYETTE BELFRY CENTRAL MAYFIELD RYLE
  13. Here's the way I'd rank the states Top 10 right now, Desales would come in at #11 .. MALE TRINITY SCOTT CO S.KENTON MANUAL ST X BRYAN STATION B.GREEN PULASKI CO S.WARREN
  14. Let's face it, it's 2 really strong programs that both feel have enough talent to win it all this year. Being a Mayfield fan for a good # of years, I feel I have a good idea when the Cardinals have the talent to take it all and when they may struggle. Granted, there's been years I gave them too much credit and they got it put on them and other years where I didn't feel so good and they still managed to win it. I will say, the last couple of years I've been very impressed with the Colts team and I'm sure they're strong again this year, so, if both are fortunate to get there and meet, I'm sure it'll take a super effort and game to beat them. I also think Desales will need to play an A game to beat the Cardinals. Both teams are used to playing bigger schools with more kids on the sidelines and both have faired well when they do. Both play a lot of kids and neither have many that goes both ways. It'll come down to who executes the best and makes the fewest mistakes, nothing more, nothing less.
  15. Not sure I agree with NCC being favored over Danville to come out of the east. They've both played good schedules and Danville's played at a higher and more consistent level, in my opinion. Not even sure I'd favor NCC over LCA. They've played a better schedule, but, a team that can score like LCA can is a dangerous team, at any time.
  16. I think Desales is a clear #1 and Mayfield is a clear #2 , however, it wouldn't surprise me to see CAL vs OB Catholic or Murray in the semi's. In a one game and go home scenario, their are teams in both of their paths more than capable of pulling off an upset.
  17. In my book, I'd take McCracken over Ballard. I would have last year, as well. Ballard got hot in the playoffs, but, also had the advantage of not having to play any of the Big 4 district teams until the title game and you saw what happened when they did. Manual knocked out McCracken in the 1st round, but, they did hold the big lead at halftime, but, ran out of gas as Manual imposed it's will in the 2nd half. I feel pretty certain, Manual would have beaten Ballard in a similar fashion.
  18. For 3 consecutive years, this has been an "instant classic" game. Neither team giving an inch. I hope this game continues for years to come. IMO, McCracken and Mayfield are the 2 best programs in the far west part of the state. Tilghman, Murray and Caldwell may have a little more tradition than McCracken, but, McCracken, at this particular time, is putting a better product on the field and with the numbers, facilities, coaching and overall talent, I expect that to continue. State championships may be hard to come by with St X, Male and Trinity in their paths, but, that goes for everyone in 6a. I could see McCracken being right up their with the Scott Co's and Simon Kenton's in the next few years, as long as they can maintain a good staff and keep improving their feeder programs.
  19. Russellville looks like they're the real deal this year.. I don't see Crittenden or Bethlehem or any other region 1 teams playing with them.. Should be a good one if them and Beechwood happen to hook up..
  20. Depth won't be an issue. Mayfield only has 1 or 2 kids go both ways. I think McCracken may have more than that that play both ways.. McCracken may beat them, but, it won't because of a depth problem..
  21. I definitely think Desales looked more impressive than Mayfield did in the Title game. However, last year was supposed to be a rebuilding year that they came into the season with a lot of question marks and I think most Cardinal fans were less confident about a title than the prior 2 years. While they didn't look all that impressive, I give an inspired Williamsburg team a lot of credit for that. They basically returned everyone from the 13 runner-up team, were undefeated and played with a large chip on their shoulder. As for Desales, I don't think anyone from the east side of 2a was very good. NCC has a great tradition and have had some great past teams, but, let's be realistic, the 2014 version wasn't one of their best and it's easy to look impressive when you're clearly the more talented team. IMO, there were at least 4-5 1a teams better than NCC was last year. I do feel this years Mayfield team is considerably better than last years. The offense is much more efficient, they have more playmakers at RB and WR and Arnett is clearly stronger and running the team with a lot more confidence. They also look better defensively, especially at LB and in the secondary. They also have more depth as only 2-3 players go both ways, and, outside of Kennemore, the other 2 only play part time on both sides. Whether that's enough to get over the hump against an outstanding Desales team is yet to be determined, but, I do like this team a lot and their chances. With that said, Desales needs to concern themselves with CAL, Monroe and Glasgow and Mayfield needs to concern themselves with Murray, Butler Co and OB Catholic. It'll be challenging enough to get by those teams and if both are fortunate enough to do so, then, we'll see what happens.
  22. Crittenden plays a very good Caldwell Co team this Friday, which is a big rival of the Rockets. Caldwell would be a Top 5 1a team, at worse, maybe even 1 or 2. They also play a good Union Co team 2 weeks after the Caldwell game. Union would be a Top 10 1a team, probably in the 6-7 range, so, we'll get to see if they've really improved from last year or just the beneficiary of a weak early schedule.
  23. Why are people asking this question of Conner and Cooper, but, not of Highlands.. It,s just assumed that Highlands moved up to play better completion. "You know, to challenge themselves." Well, if they really wanted to challenge themselves, then move up to 6a. What if Cooper moved up to challenge themselves and be able to play the best of the best and in the long run, have one of the best programs, not only in NKy, but, in the whole state.
