I would think that some 13 yr olds are ready while others are not. Lighter weights and more reps sounds like a good idea.

Don't know the Lewis kid, don't know how he did or what he did, don't have a middle school kid. I was just suprised that kids that age actually compete in weight lifting. Good luck to the Lewis kid and his growth plates.

A 6th grader lifting weights? Isn't this a little early? (Unless he's been held back a couple of years). I thought pediatricians suggest waiting until 13-14 years old to start weight training.

What's wrong with the surface? I remember running on the cinders there back in the day. I also got to run on it after it was resurfaced. I saw a guy roll in the cinders in the 300 hurdles. It wasn't pretty. The BIT was always a good meet and I remember running the regional there my senior year.

It looks like they are having a MUCH better turn out for spring practice this year than the last couple of years. That is a good sign.
