When you have a limited number of marquee games, might not want to have your best player in the "doghouse"

Welcome to Louisville high school basketball. It's a tale of the haves and have nots. You can argue whether that's a good or bad thing I suppose.

winning a game out of region is almost impossible. The fact that coaches have so much control over rating/scratching in region officials is NOT good for the game. Every time I see an "upset" I always check to see where the game was played...and it's almost always out of region.

The KABC POY is a senior award. The "regional player of the year" award can go to anybody in any class (See Ally Niece winning 8th region POY last year).

I see no reason why anyone from the "Large" schools would have a problem with this tournament. If anyone was going to take issue it should be the small schools. If I was an "A" school in the 1st region not named Murray I might feel it's unfair that they are going to win both. And while it hasn't been a problem recently, in the past this tournament has been dominated by private schools (which I could see small public schools having an issue with). But for someone from a large school to take issue with this event I really don't get it.

Eastern beat mercy first game of the year...and north bullitt is at least decent. Be anxious to see what manual does against top competition

Lots of parity after the top 6....several teams playing their way into the rankings this week!

When Mason went to the semi finals a couple of years ago things were very different. 1. The 10th region was significantly easier to navigate and 2. They got an extremely favorable draw allowing them to play two of the weakest teams in the entire tournament to advance. I think Mason has had some incredibly high expectations since then....some maybe a little unfair to the girls and new coach. I have seen them once this year and thought they were very well coached, for what it's worth.

Maybe when you shoot 28 threes you don't give yourself a chance to get to the line very often?

A dog means they wouldn't be favored. They would certainly have a chance against anybody. They have some great players.

Murray would be a dog vs any of the top 5 teams right now. When Waldrop gets back, things could potentially change.

Because they have more good players? haha I don't know a ton about holmes...I only saw them a few times last year but from what I saw of them I would think Simon would be a 6-8 point favorite at least.

I think Simon is clearly a step ahead of Holmes....but we will see I suppose!

This year for sure. The 8th is way down outside of Simon.

Where to start.... Let's start with defense, because I personally feel this is probably the most underrated facet of her game. Igo defended elite D1 prospects in the 2019 class for most of the summer (she's a 2020 just FYI) and then made the jump and defended elite 2018's. Not only did she not have any problems, I would go as far to say she was a defensive stopper. The kid is a strong on ball defender, but she's exceptional off the ball in a team defensive scheme. Exceptional. One of the best I've ever seen for a girl her age. She's always in the right spots, she has great footwork, and is tough as nails. I don't think anybody is going to be dissatisfied with her defense at the next level. Offensively she's a combo guard. She can comfortably play on or off the ball. Coaches that value versatility, a strong skill set, and a team before me attitude will love her (I think that's prolly a lot of coaches). I can't find a major hole in her game. Does she have things to work and improve on? Absolutely. But she has shown a willingness to put the time in the gym. As far as high school goes, she CARRIED her varsity team offensively as an 8th grader....and that was being at the top of everyone's Scouting report. She did that largely without the three point shot...partially bc that is one area she is still working diligently on but also bc when you have to bring the ball down the floor AND do almost all the heavy lifting in the scoring column threes don't exactly come easy. She's more then capable of making them, especially when she plays with players on her level that can actually create for her too (see Scherr, Maddie). Maybe the best thing you can say is that she is an extremely hard worker that WANTS to be the best. She will put in the time. She has parents that support her and give her what she needs to make herself the very best she can be. The fact that she's only a freshman should be frightening to other teams in the 10th region. As far as her being a major D1, she's already been on that stage in front of many of the major schools around the nation and they have come to the conclusion that she's a player they want on their team. At the end of this process, Igo is going to be able to choose from a long list of schools...both power 5 and mid major schools...and her and her family will get to decide what is best for her.

Coaches just don't "scout" very many high school games at all. Most of the time when you see them in high school gyms they are sitting on a certain player that they already have determined they like/want. Really hard for them logistically because they are in the middle of their seasons at the same time...not a whole lot of time to look for new talent. There are a few events you will see them at and actively looking for kids...but usually to play in these events your kid has to be on one of the better high school teams in the state...and even then most of these kids are already "marked" by coaches for one reason or another.

The very best girls 8th graders usually have no problems

It's time to just Open it all up. ...if a school district will let you attend their school whether you live out of district or not, kids are allowed to play sports. That's not a "sour grapes" opinion either. We've just gotten to the point where if you try hard enough and have the means (brains, money etc) you can go and play wherever you want. Just open it up and save everyone with headaches.

So many players in the 7th. Not all top 10 lists are equal...this one could go 20+ deep and still be better then almost all other regions.
