No idea when the last time Owensboro made a final is but BG has never made it and I'm imagining that Calloway hasn't either. Not sure on Boyle County? - - - - - Only other time in state (2003,) Calloway County lost a first round game to Warren Central. Terry Birdsong was their coach then too; went to Graves County for seven years; now back at Calloway. Owensboro's last time in the final was the last time they won it: 1980. They were in the final four in 1983, 1986 and 1992. Lost to the eventual champ each of those three years. Boyle County was there in 1998, 1999, and 2006. This is their first year to win a game at state...and now it's two!

Look at the shooting percentages though: 29% from the field, 46% at the line. That won't beat very many teams. And the Red Devils hit everything in sight! Me too...surprised at the margin of victory for Owensboro, though they impressed me in the first round game.

I sat in the balcony and it looked awfully empty from up there for the afternoon session. I don't think of Hopkinsville and Owensboro as being really good at "bringing a crowd"...and Wednesday afternoon is tough. Might have been a big difference if Henderson County had made it. The 12,457 number had to be tickets sold. There weren't that many people there...by a long shot.

Always tough to watch a "new" team come to Rupp Arena and have just an awful day. Owensboro had a lot to do with that, but I really felt for Collins. I did appreciate the sportsmanship of the Titans' #23 (sorry; forgot his name already.) Seemed like a really nice kid.

Looked to me like Taylor had plenty of offensive chances, but could never get the lid off the basket. Even at that, it was a 4-point game at 64-60...and then the wheels not only fell off, they rolled into the ditch. Always glad to see a Western Kentucky team win, but I would like to see those two teams go at it again.

Oops. Shelby and Edmonson County played in the semi-finals in 1976. In 1978, Shelby played previously-unbeaten Apollo in a first round game. THAT was something. It was speculated by many that it was the state championship game...only on Thursday afternoon. Sure enough, the Rockets won that game...and the whole she-bang. Great memory!

Sumo, make sure the KHSAA knows...and the rep from your area too. No doubt they are always looking for a better (and less expensive) way to do business, but March 9th seems ridiculous. They need to know about screw-ups so they can address them in the future. Hope it works out all right for ya!

Looking forward to the match-up. I'll agree with the posters above who have said that being there the last three years will be an advantage to Hopkinsville. If it will be enough of an advantage, we will find out Wednesday. Someone asked on an earlier thread where Clem Haskins stood on the all-time Taylor County scoring list. I was going through some old publications in my files, and from a 1974 issue of a magazine called Inside Kentucky Sports there was an article about Clem and the 1963 state tourney team. For you young 'uns, there were still segregated schools in Kentucky during that era, and Clem played at an all-black high school through his sophomore year, then transferred to Taylor County for his junior and senior seasons. Ironically the year after he graduated, Campbellsville Durham was dissolved and (presumably) both Campbellsville and Taylor County were part of the resultant integration. The statistics given in the article don't balance out perfectly, but the best I can figure: 1960 - freshman year at Campbellsville Durham - 805 points in a 16-12 season - region runner-up 1961 - sophomore year at Campbellsville Durham - 960 points in a 25-7 season - region semi-finals 1962 - junior year at Taylor County - 810 points in a 29-4 season - region runner-up 1963 - senior year at Taylor County - 954 points in a 33-3 season - region champion The only year his team went to state was 1963 when they beat Breckinridge Training by fourteen, but lost to eventual runner-up Lexington Dunbar by one in the quarter-finals. Apparently someone has the all-time scoring list at Taylor County, but I haven't been able to locate it. It was reported that Quentin Goodin, the star of this year's team, moved to the top of the list during the region tournament.

When I saw the title of this thread, I got all excited. Then realized you were talking about high school seniors.

I'm not a fan of seeding at all. Being from a tiny school, getting the best draw possible and m-a-y-b-e getting an upset win could let you get to the district final & regional. Seeding leaves you one-and-done every single year. Not the end of the world, but just having that c-h-a-n-c-e keeps the carrot on the end of the stick. However I do feel...if you are going to let a loser advance...seeding the region is a great idea. Seeding the Sweet 16? Please no.
