Reports that 3 public schools from region 2 will boycott the all a classic next year. Anybody else hearing this? Supposedly the regions with private schools have several schools that are trying to arrange a boycott. If so, sad. Why take the kid's chances to play in a tournament away? Adults make such stupid decisions sometimes.

Not saying I agree or disagree with the teams supposedly "boycotting"...however...even if this happened no kid would have to miss out on a single game. Coaches/AD's could simply schedule around it, and actually could quite possibly end up with more games out of it. After all, the teams have to schedule as if they would advance all the way out, and many teams lose the first round. A coach could schedule 3 or 4 games in that time period and actually get more games than not.

 

Now, I guess the team that would miss out maybe would be the private school team who is being boycotted against. However if everyone boycotted them and they would be the A region winner by default, their coach could schedule around that as well and get some games in leading to the tournament in Frankfort.

What's the reason for the boycott?

When my daughter used to play soccer, the high school coach put it to a vote of the parents whether the school should continue with the all a tournament. The coach said that scheduling was hard because you never knew when you could get knocked out. If the school was knocked out early it left a hole in the schedule. The parents voted to not continue doing the tournament. I do not know what the issue is, but that is why her high school decided to stop the tourney

Well, since UH is the only private school on that list...I'd say they aren't the ones leading the charge in the boycott. Just saying.

I would say they might be part of the reason to want to boycott.........:lol: Seeing that if it is true that it is coming out of Region 2 since they are the only private school in the region.

When is the last time UHA didn't win the 2nd region All A? I mean they win more often then they don't for sure.

UHA's girls have won three of the past four All A region titles, and they have not traditionally been particularly successful until recently.

UHA's boys have won 14 of the 20 region tournaments.

I don't blame the small schools one bit for boycotting or dropping from this tourney. What started as a "true small school" tourney when it began has now become more about $. I know all the arguments about enrollment numbers etc., but what was intended to give the little guy a chance at a "state" title has been eclipsed by the reasons of "too many small school consolidations, we have to have a certain number of participants to make it financially feasible," and many others. Fact is, when Steidel and others started this, it was so teams like Bellevue, Dayton, H.Cross (much smaller enrollment then), Silver Grove, etc. that will NEVER be in the sweet 16 could experience the opportunities. The vision was not for Lloyd, NCC, Newport, and others to compete just so there were enough teams to maintain their sponsors, finances etc.

How do you propose paying for a tourney for schools with let's say 200 or fewer studends?
