How do you propose paying for a tourney for schools with let's say 200 or fewer studends?

the same way they do now....sponsors, gate, programs, all the ways tourneys pay for expenses......sponsors being the bulk. Not all sponsors are overly concerned about whether there are 100 teams or 125 teams

I don't really think a UHA is the type of school that the tournament was ever intended for.

 

Same for NCC this past season, though for different reasons. I know it might have been a big deal to them to win it all, but at the same time, there's been some fair questions about whether or not it was beneficial to them in the long run.

 

In a few years, I'll probably say the same about someone like Lexington Christian Academy.

 

IMO, this one is more about your teams like Elliott County and Williamsburg. I'm not against privates being in it because you'll have your schools like Sayre, CAL, OBI, whoever that most are perfectly fine with them being in it. Change that to a Cordia though and the sentiment probably shifts noticeably though, and you can't really say that it's for no reason if it means they are knocking out a team like Buckhorn or Owsley County.

So people want to punish a small school of they have the talent to play with big schools they shouldnt be allowed to compete with schools comparable to their own size?? NewCath is the obvious example. A little over 400 kids and co-ed so they shouldnt be able to play with schools their size for a tournament because they work hard and have to talent to beat schools with 2,000 kids. Who would that really be unfair to?? Sorry your to good......

I believe there are just around 260 schools in the state, so if 125 are able to be in this tournament, that means it is for just under half the schools in the state. If you wanted to really make it for the small schools I would think either limit it to something like the smallest 64 schools, or give some enrollment cap.

 

The private/public problem is another story. Small private schools do have some significant potential advantages over small public schools (money, larger general population to potentially draw from). The problem is that few (Newport Catholic, UHA...) have turned these potential advantages into real basketball success. The problem with removing private schools from the tournament is that you are also hurting the several small private schools who are basically in the same situation as most of the small public schools.

275 schools in Kentucky. 120 smallest schools are invited to the All "A" Classic. 43% of schools are eligible to participate, although there are some that choose not to.

I don't think anyone should or needs to boycott anything. If they chose not to play for whatever reason that's on them. The fact that a school has a dominant run in any sport shouldn't dissuade any other school from competing.

 

The All "A" IMO isn't about participation ribbons or giving the very smallest schools a chance to "win something". It was and is about a group of schools coming together to compete in season against schools of comparable size. It's about more than just basketball also.

It's unfair to their own kids that Holmes is going to Binghamton, NY to play in the Stop DWI Classic and getting solid preparation for region while they are beating up on Lloyd and Holy Cross and not getting that same preparation.

 

That NCC is too good to be playing in the All A Classic is a compliment to their kids, not an insult. They could have scheduled a game with LCA and gotten the same out of what they did from the All A.
