  1. For certain. CC, BG, JH & HHS have been 5A football in the 6 class era. No way Highlands will not treat them with the respect they deserve.
  2. If there was any question of whether the Birds D could man-up against bigger, physical teams it has been answered the past two weeks. Those kids have flat-out played their butts off in the mountains & shown tremendous heart. Keep it up boys. Only one more week!
  3. Solid post. :thumb: I love match-ups like HHS v. Harlan and JC. The kids on both sides will remember these games for years (as will the parents). IMO, these games are great for KY football. Teams from relatively unfamiliar parts of the state playing each other will only strengthen the programs at both ends.
  4. My understanding is solid black with only a little white on the helmet.
  5. Maybe, maybe not, but everyone who was at JC last night saw just how hard these kids are willing to fight to get that 4th title in a row. I'll admit that at times this season their focus wasn't what it could be, but those days are over & these kids want it bad. Keep it up boys!
  6. Not to hijack this thread, but what exactly is happening over there? I'm sure there's another thread about it but I missed it.
  7. As the saying goes, "now that's funny right there!"
  8. I've heard it's a two year deal & Highlands will be at the pit in 2012. :thumb:
  9. I know one purpose of this forum is for open debate about the football programs & their strategies, but I gotta agree with NCBIRD on this one. Dale has won state championships in HALF of the seasons he's coached Highlands, so until I see a significant drop-off in production, I'm inclined to give him & his staff the benefit of the doubt. If CCH had a coach that won like that they'd be promoting him for sainthood! IMO, Dale doesn't do anything that's not calculated into the bigger picture of what he's trying to accomplish. As much as I'd like to see a couple of the kids going both ways (and have mentioned it on BGP), I've got to believe there's a very good reason he's chosen not to do so.
  10. What other possible reason could someone have for choosing Highlands over SK? I may be grasping at straws, but what the heck, lets take a look at the most recent ACT scores: ...................HHS..........SK.....Difference English..........22..........17.9 .......-4.1 Math.............22.2........19.0.......-3.2 Reading.........22..........19.5.......-2.5 Science.........21.7........19.7.......-2 Composite.....22.1........19.2........-2.9 I know, I know. ACT scores aren't important, unless you want to go to college.
  11. VOR - it totally was not my intention to do so. I was just trying to relate what had happened in those two games. Having said that, I can't wait for Saturday's game. Should be a good one!
  12. That's awesome. :thumb: I often wish this board had a policy for full name use only. It would stop so much nonsense.
  13. Should be the same channel the Reds games were on - 661.
  14. I think everyone has a soft spot for the river school programs. They're old school - right up there with the steel towns. Hard-nosed people playing hard-nosed football. Unfortunately, they've also declined over the past few decades like the steel towns. This is a tough subject to discuss without offending people, but there's no doubt that declining demographics have hurt the river school programs. I had a good talk recently with an alumni from one of the river schools. Within the past year he was asked back with other alumni for a celebration honoring an achievement of his graduating class, and was shocked at the behavior and lack of respect of the current players. And this guy is not that old - has a kid currently in high school. Maybe most telling is that his kid does not attend his alma mater.
  15. I'm a Highlands guy, not Cov Cath, and I'm telling you, Cov Cath gave us a much, much better game than Campbell County. It's not even close. I don't think you'll find one person who was at both games that would disagree with me. I don't really care either way, I'm just giving you the facts of what happened.
  16. I was not at last night's game - just basing my opinion on both team's games against Highlands. I know the boy breaking his leg took some wind out of Campbell Cty when they played Highlands, but they were absolutely manhandled that game - showed no ability to move the ball at all, or stop Highlands starting offense. Physically, they didn't match up well on either side of the line. Cov Cath, on the other hand, played Highlands very tough. The game was very close at the half, and could have ended differently had CC not lost their momentum due to a couple quick scores by Highlands in the 3rd. CC also matched up better with Highlands at the line of scrimmage, although Highlands d-linemen did start to get the best of CC as the game wore on.
  17. 5 turnovers will do that. IMO, these two teams are not as close as the score showed. Comparison of their games against Highlands bares this out - unless Cov Cath happened to have the game of their lives against Highlands, and Campbell their absolute worst.
  18. I am 99.99% sure the HHS/NewCath game is off. Maybe someone else can chip in the other 0.01%? I agree that this would not be a pretty game anyway. The numbers just aren't on NCC's side this year. Too bad Highlands couldn't get SK frosh to fill in.
  19. That old pic of Newport is awesome!
  20. In my perfect world, all coaches of children, in all sports, will grasp this fact. Why adults have so much difficulty understanding this is beyond me.
  21. And no one seemed too concerned about Cody Rosenhagen playing baseball in the spring as he was taking a fumble back 95 yds to the house against JC in the playoffs two years ago. Or when he was booming kickoffs into the endzone either.
  22. Warning - Following is a blanket statement: Highlands will not get you a D1 scholly if you're not of that caliber, but if you are or are close to it, it WILL ensure you don't get overlooked. Not all schools can offer that.
  23. Wednesday, 10/6, 5:00 PM @ Cov Cath. I've heard good things about the CC frosh, but this Highlands frosh class is something else. They're not just beating teams, they're dismantling them.
