Lot's of great responses. I really didn't expect people to feel so pasionately about this subject. Where I grew up there wasn't the amount of small colleges there are back here, so I have very little perspective on the small college experience.

This time every year I'm always surprised by the amount of high school football players from this area that commit to play at small D3 & NAIA schools. Unless you just absolutely love football & can't imagine not playing a few more years, I don't see the benefit. What do you all think? As I see it: Pros: get to play football a few more years, comradery w/ peers, an excuse to stay in shape, takes up spare time - less chance for getting in trouble. Cons: very large time drain from academics, likelihood of severe injury, likelihood of wear & tear on joints that will limit physical activity later in life, little to no fan support from student body (often much less than in HS), very little recognition outside of own program. With a sport like baseball where the likelihood of sustaining injuries that will hinder later-life activity is much lower, I guess I can see it. But with football, I just don't see the upside.

Is the field at the school?

If Ft. Thomas has so much power at the state level, then why has it not been able to change the KERA funding formula that has continually made it the worst (or next to worst) funded school district in the entire state? If Ft. Thomas has so much power, wouldn't they be able to stop the state from taking their "money" & redistributing it to the rest of the state?:confused:

Just 8th graders - but most kids from their teams are now frosh.

There are also a couple other kids who played SWOL last year that have already faced some of the kids who will be pitching for the frosh teams from Kenton & Boone counties this year - as well as other pitchers like them.

I think both. Highlands O line quickness was great as usual & their execution is unparalleled in high school football, but I also think JH's d-line was slow off the ball. But as I said, it may have been by plan. They dialed it up towards the end of the game on that drive where they were jumping the snap count, but Highlands came back with changed cadences & caught JH off-sides twice.

Unlike the JC game which went pretty much as I anticipated, I was a bit surprised by how much HHS dominated this game. After watching a little film of JH's defense, I thought they'd be much more effective against HHS's running game. Highland's offensive line play was awesome as usual, but in this case I also think JH's d-line didn't perform up to their potential. Not sure if it was scheme related - bend not break - but with the exception of one second half series where they were anticipating the snap count, they did not come off the ball well at all. Maybe they thought their 2 big kids could hang back, make reads, and shed the smaller HHS interior linemen to get to the ball carrier - I don't know - but it didn't work. After hearing about how well JH had moved the ball around on offense, I was also a bit surprised they couldn't get more going. But then again, who really got anything going on Highlands all year? No one.

I think the overwhelming majority of Highlands fans understands that any team who makes it this far into the playoffs is a good team - luck only gets you so far. I know some of us can be a bit over the top on this board, but the program itself hasn't gotten this far by not properly respecting their opponents. I've heard it both ways on the JC vs Pulaski topic. I'll take that as meaning they're very close - different offensive styles, but overall close. Unfortunately, you have to be quite a bit better than JC to beat Highlands - that's of course assuming Highlands plays a decent game, which they show no signs of not doing. And just to touch on the speed thing - everyone who plays Highlands for the first time in some years, and hasn't played one of the big L-ville or 'Nati schools recently, is shocked initially. Even 'Nati St. X was surprised I believe.

IMO, you cannot overstate how well this kid has played since taking over for Bardo. When you consider not only that he's a sophomore, but that he didn't play QB as a freshman, his performance is unbelievable. The composure he shows when under pressure in the pocket - moving around, keeping his eyes up field, pulling the ball down & scrambling to keep the play alive, but then pulling up & firing to an open receiver - is just simply outstanding for a kid his age. He has not thrown a single INT as a starting QB! Let me state that again - he has not thrown a single INT as a starting QB. Patrick - if you're reading this forget everything I just said. Keep the attitude you have right now. Football is only a game, and it's the person you become that really matters. But it's the person you are right now that will keep you working hard 12 months a year to become the elite-level QB I believe you have the talent to become. Keep your head on straight & do yourself proud.

Ditto on that one from another Birds fan. Keep it up BS. Can't wait to see you guys competing for the 6A championship in the near future.:thumb:
