Will St. Xavier and Trinity always win no matter who the coach is? Will they always be rakned in the top 5 in 6A regardless of who the coach is?

At Trinity, Coach Beatty and the staff he has accumulated is the difference between getting to the championship game and winning the State Championship. Even though the Rocks fell short this year it may well be his best coaching job while at Trinity. Look out for the next three years the Rocks will show a dramatic difference. Has anyone heard any rumors about Trinity getting a new defencive coordinator for next year, has Terry Bean retired or is that just another rumor off of the mill? GO ROCKS

It matters, but not a ton. In other words the margin for error is much greater with T and X than anyplace else.

Coaching always matters...probably not as much as us coaches might like to think and probably not as little as some others would like to reason.

 

Trinity and St.X have been built into what they are over time by a lot of very dedicated people that include the coaching staffs. While these juggernauts may be at the top for the forseeable future, put a bad coach in place and you will see how much it matters (I'm sure there are some programs that come to mind; no need to mention names).

Ask the Trinity fans about Chuck Servino.

Of course it matters. Imagine if St. X decided to open up their offense like Trinity. Or imagine if Trinity ran the triple option during their great run in the 2000's...Would they have won all those state titles? That is debatable...

 

Not only does Good Coaching, Bad Coaching matter but coaching philosophy and decison making. Coaches can help win games and help lose them. In fact, IMO, St. X lost their championship game in 2007 in OT because of the coaches lack of execution and not players lack of execution.

I was told that Coach Bean was recently let go & Craig Swabek was promoted to replace him as Defensive Coordinator. I haven't seen anything official from T but did hear that from a very reliable source...

The gist of this is true.

You can not overlook the difference in a great coaching staff and a not so great coaching staff. It matters no matter what school you are talking about.

 

I purposely said, "Coaching staff", not just "head coach". It takes a good staff, a great head coach is not as affective without the supporting staff.

Organization and discipline would be a big factor with the number of players they have on their team. That is when a good head coach is needed. His assistants must be the best at what they do and dedicated to the program.

I think any coach either school would hire that is qualified by experience to get hired would finish in the top 5 in 6A. Does anyone think it is possible for either school to not be one of the top 5 in the state? I think with the size of the schools and their tradition that they will always be in the top 5.

Top 5 isn't good enough for either of us. If they finished with decent records and didn't at least make a title game in 3-4 years they would likely be gone.

I'll take Jimmy's and Joe's over X's and O's. Good coaches win with talent, bad coaches lose with talent....but nobody wins without talent.
