I think that Trinity had the talent, but alot of stuff went on behind the scenes that most people did not know about. The leadership was definitely there.

Officiating? There wasn't much there to call. Pretty clean game overall. Now you hit a nerve. Was it the contact below the waist call? Right call. Pass interference? right call. Late hit-personal foul- right call. Trinity jumping offsides? See my previous post about coaching.

Those schools, of course, being the elite of Ky HS FB. The much more voluminous list includes the ones where it does constitute it. And I would argue that at most of the schools you list above, the three-year results we isolated in on would still be considered pretty good, and not likely to put the coach who delivered said results in a bad light among fans and administration.

Of course. Fairly or unfairly, there are different standards and expectations for the elite of Kentucky high school football. Perhaps, that's why those schools remain elite.

Put Glaser/Beatty at Iroquois/Atherton.

AT one time (not X necessarily) but T for sure - was viewed as such.

 

It took a long long time. And, a great deal of work. As someone else pointed out ---it has been alot of PEOPLE - Coaches, players, administrators, parents, etc. - who helped to build what they are today.

 

You tell me why there seems to be little pride I(in many instances) among public schools ? You tell me how there are not even enough fans in the stands for each kid on the team at alot of the games? Sorry - but dont want to get started down that road.

Extremely sad. Coach Bean was one of the top defensive coordinators in the state. And he was also a former head coach, who coached Oldham County to several spectacular seasons in the early-mid 80s, including the 1984 team that went 11-0 in the regular season while being ranked #1 in State 4A. (while shutting out 6 of 11 opponents and allowing just 3 ppg)

 

Not only a tremendous coach, but an incredible person and leader of young men.

 

No question about it. A real class act. If this is true - hate to see it as well. But I - and would assume many others -do not the 'real story.'

 

It is Coach B's program. As many of us know from personal experience - no one is indispensible. If a change had to be made - have to trust the process and the one making the call. For the betterment of the team and program.

Maybe in Xs and Os, maybe. But what most don't get, even some St. Xavier supportors here don't get, is that wins and losses are not the top priority with Coach Glaser or the Administration at St. Xavier.

 

As long as Coach Glaser still has the burn and wants to coach he will be the coach. The important factor is how he runs the program.

 

I am by no means saying the man should be replaced, I just think Trinity has a better coaching staff that is going to make them a better team for the majority of years to come.

Jim, I had two sons at Atherton. I went to Iroquois, I see what I see at X/Rocks, totally different sport. Iroquois has trouble getting uniforms that fit, look at your field alone.

 

I'm retired and never missed a parent meeting and hit almost every practice. Sleep in our bed one time, "don't go down that road," you are so right.

 

Thats the problem, the rich get richer and we just go home. Something isn't fair is it?

None of those schools are remotely close to the same level of talent to X and T. And you say etc.:laugh:

 

If you are a fan of X, you might want to take a look at your programs lack of success in the BIG game. This year's team was extraordinary, yet they squeaked by in two of their final three playoff games. Trinity has maximized their talent in the past decade, X has not.

 

My point was not about X vs T, but why the publics with all the ALLSTATE, college D1 prospects, still can not compete with T or X. Coaching at the public level might be the reason.

I have tried to read most the posts in this thread, but I have not read them all. I do not know if someone has also mentioned what I am about to.

 

First, coaching does matter at St. X and Trinity. Both schools have very good coaches and a system that develops players.

 

But what I have not seen posted is the ability of a coach at these schools to handle other aspects of the job. For instance, Calipari was in Frankfort last week to address the legislature and then also promoted and raised over one million dollars for Haiti relief funding. Billy Gillespie didn’t seem comfortable, or have the ability, to do those things. At X, the football coaches have the ability to teach skills, but there is also more to the job. Not anybody could do some of those things.

Trinity and St. X, as mentioned in an earlier post, have a huge advantage in enrollment. Let it be known that they are also private schools (fill-in the blanks of whatever your opinion is on that, but it is beside the point).

 

However, I do believe that coachs matter. Teams do not win on talent alone. In my opinion, football is a game of X's and O's more than any other sport.

 

My point is that these schools need great coaching to a certain extent. I believe if every high school team was on an even playing field in Kentucky (coaching wise), and over a long period of time Trinity and St. X would still be the odds on favorite to be the best teams because of the high enrollment and possibly the advantage of being a private school.

I understand. I feel strongly about the Public Schools (believe it or not) having parent and school support. I want to see those kids succeed as well. I know they work hard and put everything they have into it and not alot of people seem to be there for them. It's a whole lot easier when you got stands full of fans cheering your every move - and supporting you in every endeavor.

I commend you for all that you did and your involvement. But, bet you were an exception.

YOur right-- there is not alot of fairness out there.

As a Trinity alumni and a parent of a son who played his final season as a Rock this past year I want to share my thoughts. First and foremost, the vast majority of kids on both Trinity and St.X's rosters come from Louisville Catholic grade schools. Yes there are some kids that come from public schools as well however, their parents, and I am speaking about the parents of kids from my son's class, have paid the price to give their son's the opportunity to experience everything these schools have to offer their kids over the past four years. It's more than football believe it or not.

 

Both staff's are extremely dedicated to the kids and to molding these teenagers into responsible young men. From mid January through the first week of December, the hours they put into their programs are exhausting and they do this because of the love of the game and the school and not for some large paycheck which does not exist. The kids, understand the tradition they inherit and take on the challenge head on. My son was in the weight room 6 days a week from January through May. From the first week of June until they started practice in mid July, he had to be at the school from 8:00 - 10:00 daily for conditioning and weight training. This was a four year job for my son and taught him valuable lessons that will carry him forward in life. Yes we had numbers as we always do and we had talent, but it was St.X's year plain and simple. They proved it in both games because they had both pieces, excellent coaches and talent. I hated the loss for my son, but he will graduate with an excellent GPA, alot of memories and friendships that will last him an entire lifetime. For that, I am grateful for what Trinity has done for my son.
