  1. I don't think it needs one - I just love a faster paced game. There are more than a few games out of the hundreds of thousands that are painfully slow!!!! There are more than a few in the dozens of games I see a year. As stated above - I don't think High School basketball needs a shot clock - its a great game the way it is (love it more than anything) - but nothing wrong with making a great thing better!!
  2. Many schools don't seems to find it difficult to fund the installation of synthetic turf football fields and jumbo-trons. But an excellent point. I never considered the cost to EVERY school - somewhat daunting. It sounded good when my brain thought it!!!
  3. Good argument for a shot clock in HS basketball. Even if it's a 45 sec clock like college started with. Gives plenty of time to run the offense without rushing a shot.
  4. Love the comment in bold. Agree that I would take advice from anyone on the team - whether coaching a work team or a sports team. I also ask for advice constantly from people "outside the team". Unsolicited advice is also sometimes welcome - SOMETIMES. Depends on the source and the motivation for offering the unsolicited advice.
  5. My "parental policy" is to NEVER discuss game/player related stuff with a coach during the season, unless they begin the conversation. If a coach does begins the conversation, I do not provide any player or situation specific comments or advice - especially linked to my kids. They have enough other parents offering their services. After the season ends - it never seems like the things I would have discussed were really all that important after all. Amazing how emotion clouds the judgment!!!!!
  6. I am in no position to talk to any team/school/student about their fan behavior. I simply commented that I thought CovCath's was excessive. By saying this I was in no way indicating that I have noticed it exclusively at their games.
  7. Never witnessed faculty etc "between the students and the players". Always standing close, but never between.
  8. It's definitely distracting. If they were 10' (or 5', or 3') away I would leave it at that. But in my opinion they are permitted too close to the players and the court.
  9. Watch an opposing team take a ball out of bounds on the student side of the gym at Cov Cath. Up close and personal taunting. Almost touching the inbounder. I am a sportsmanship "purist" - I don't think taunting etc should be tolerated at the high school level.
  10. I love the enthusiasm of the Cov Cath student section, but think they take many things too far - as most student sections would if the school administration did little to discourage them. That's my issue from attending many of their games in the past. School officials allow the students to do things that I feel are poor sportsmanship at a minimum.
  11. If this is regarding High School ball see below. Overreacting...yes. Is it a big deal...no. Should a parent do this....no. Should a coach allow "parental visits" during a game....no. Should little Johnny have a discussion with his parents and ask them to stay in the stands....yes.
  12. If "ifs" and "butts" were candy and nuts....... The outcome of many things in life would be different if you could add (2) units of measure. Games are a fixed length for a reason.
  13. I agree that they are the favorite in the 10th, (and have the best player in the 10th) but disagree that it would be a monumental upset. Upset, yes. Monumental, no. Several teams are capable of beating them if they are hitting on all cylinders.
  14. From what I've seen of Newport, they don't shoot any better than Western Hills. To me, they both look like very similar teams. The biggest difference is Snapp. Western Hills did not have guard play close to his level. I expect a similar outcome tonight as Campbell County's game against Western Hills on Saturday. I do think it will be closer though.
  15. I don't see how Bracken matches up. MC is very good, and one of the top 2-3 teams in the 10th. MC by 35.
  16. Looking forward to a very good game. Could go either way. I agree it will boil down to how well CC handles the pressure, and how Wilson is defended.
  17. My opinion - CC is a better team this year as well. Jackson is off the charts good, and Wilson is playing at a higher level. CC is also a deeper team this year than they were last year. The fact that Newport lost to Brossart is also a mitigating factor.
  18. 7- Newport Central Catholic 5- Covington Catholic 3- Bishop Brossart 2- Bracken County 1- Conner TB- Bracken County
