  1. I say that to whoever is sitting next to me at high school games almost every time. RARELY does a high school team get a good shot. I agree 1000% - work for a good shot and take it when it is available.
  2. Much better the second game. I had to be evaluated for heat exhaustion and hooked to an IV after the first game.
  3. Bolded I would disagree with. It does matter "how you size it up". The record itself is rarely used as THE indicator of success. One of my favorite sayings is from Wooden "Never mistake activity for achievement". To be great - working hard and laying it on the line every night is a given for teams that want to be successful. Hard work unfortunately is only an activity. The achievement (success) is quantified differently.
  4. I guess I am struggling with a successful season being disappointing at the same time. And - achieving goals and accomplishing success are two different things. What you have defined above are milestones of a successful season. Not the success itself.
  5. Humbly and respectfully disagree. It goes back to the definition of success. My guess is that if you asked NCC at the beginning of the year their definition of a successful year - I doubt they would have said "Win the District". I agree that they lost to a very good Holmes team - and that the 9th is tough to win!! If you are implying that a Sweet 16 loss for UK would still be a successful season....I disagree. Like NCC - the bar is set much higher than that for UK. Again - not a knock on NCC. They themselves I am sure set the bar higher than winning the district.
  6. It depends on how you define success. UK is 31-0. If they lose in the first round of the NCAA tournament will they be considered successful?? NO!!! I would say NCC had a successful regular season. I define success (and so would most coaches I assume) by how a team does in the post season. At the end of the day that is what all of these coaches and kids are playing for. You play the regular season to get to the post season. Nothing against NCC - love the team and the kids. But it is what it is.
  7. I didn't think anything you said was offensive. I also wish they would have shaken hands - but understand why it didn't happen!!
  8. I don't think the celebration showed a lack of class. Big upset and the kids were excited. That's what makes High School basketball such a great thing. They beat a great team with a great winning tradition. I was excited for them!!!
  9. It's a relatively easy game to call from the stands. Don't think I have ever been out of position or missed a call from my seat. But my guess is that I would stink on the court. Like most things it is much harder than it looks.
  10. I also thought Mason County didn't use Henry enough. I was really impressed with Harrison County's ball handling and their ability to handle Mason's pressure. Thompson and Jenkins were impressive!!! I made a quick exit immediately upon conclusion of the game - but it looked like Mason County left the court without shaking hands with Harrison County. Did I just miss this because I was rushing out, or did Mason display some poor sportsmanship?
  11. Now off to watch the 10th region games today!!! I love this time of year!!
  12. My only point is the lack of depth hurts them. Yes they beat some good teams. Yes they had a very good year. Yes they were one of the top 3 teams in NKY (unfortunately the other two are in their region). But depth might help them beat a Holmes or CovCath in the region. I also still think Holmes is a team they could and maybe should beat. They just played tight in my opinion. And Holmes played a great game. The team revolves around Bolden.....but McClendon had a fantastic game. Avery had a solid game - and his dunk a thing of beauty. It was a fun game to watch. Two very good teams.
  13. Great game. I wouldn't be surprised if Dixie cuts down the nets in the 9th. They have been playing as well as anyone.
  14. Agree that playing 6 is an issue for NCC. And really only 5 in the second half. Unfortunately for NCC they are only four deep to begin with. Playing deeper in my opinion would hurt more than help. Holmes did not dig very deep into the bench either. I'm not a follower of NCC, I see them play maybe 3-4 times a year, and have seen them in the regional tournament every year. They are a good team with enough talent to win the region. I do agree with the previous poster that outside of Pangallo they are not very athletic. But I think what really gets them in the regional tournament is nerves. They simply seem to play tight. I thought this last year, and do again this year.
  15. If Scott plays anything like they did against Campbell County - Paris wins. If Paris can play extremely tough man-to-man on Ohmer like CC did - Paris wins. But....I think Coach Carr will make adjustments and have the team ready. Scott by 8.
  16. Wondering if it will start next Tuesday or Wednesday?? Does it go through Sunday?? Any help appreciated.
