Boone County 68 Walton Verona 35
kyrebel replied to magicfan217's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
Same team different year. Same guard problems. Same slow tempo. Way to many turnovers out front by the guards throwing the ball everywhere. Not strong enough handling the ball. You will not win many games if you turn the ball over 33 times. Dixon proved she can play at that level. Congrats to Kelli on a solid perfermance. Hopefully the Bearcats get things straightened out soon. Monday will be a tough game against Owen who has solid guard play. -
How is this any different than what Highlands has been doing for years. They have their own teams with interaction from the high school coaches. They have been the model for success for years.

I'm assuming the game was at Trimble, since they are the ones that had terrible lighting -

Finally new lights in the gym! Its about time, everyone was getting tired of playing in the dark down there. Away Congrats to Trimble on their win, their coach always seems to do a very good job with their program. -

Not bashing schools. Only stating the facts. Absolutely nothing against Ryle. They should have a great season. -
Walton Verona vs Boone County prediction
kyrebel replied to Time and Score's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
Dixon is solid and has the stats to back it up, but i believe Taulbee is probably the best player. Only time will tell. Without a doubt Dixon and Taulbee will carry load for Walton this year. These two should be exciting to watch this year. Good luck WV on what should be an exciting year. -
Northern Kentucky's Division I Talent

Ryle by far has the most talented team in NKY. Although the did last year also and didn't go to state. They have all the pieces to make a serious run at state, but i don't believe they have the most important piece and we all know what that is (its no secret). -
I believe Ryle coach Bryson Warner has done an outstanding job as he continues to push this program forward. He continues to set higher goals. He wants his team to play a tougher schedule. He offered to schedule Highlands twice a year, because he wanted to play the best school in northern KY. Highlands has a great program and this is where every high school would like to be as far as championships. He sets the bar high for his kids. Congrats to coach Warner keep driving forward.

A lot of people talk about D-1 talent, but only very few will ever make it to D-1. D-1 is a huge accomplishment. I don't see many of these girls fitting into a D-1 program. Keep in mind you have some very good players such as Chelsea Tolliver going to Thomas More D-3 with huge high school careers. Most D-1 players absolutely dominate at the high school level. -
Walton Verona Vs Holy Cross Scrimmage

You better get use to hearing the name Kara Taulbee this year in the 8th. She can put up some big numbers and works extremely hard all the time on both ends of the floor. -
The Sarge has to be feeling pretty proud right now. A lot of these kids had never played football before when he started this program a few years back. The fruits of your labor are paying off, as this program continues to move forward and build on what you started.

The Bearcats will be lead in scoring again this year by senior Kelli Dixon. I look for Taulbee to be 2nd in scoring (not far behind Dixon), then Slavey and Sandlin will be 3rd and 4th. I look for Judy and Clinkenbeard to both get BIG minutes this year. The bearcats will be a solid team this year. Should be some good battles in the 8th region this year, as a lot of teams have greatly improved. I don't see any clear cut favorite.

Ryle played a more physical all night long. The game was stopped several times for injured blue birds. Hopefully both teams get healthy for the playoffs and make NKY proud. Great game tonight!

9th Region Greatest of all time?
kyrebel replied to Walter's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Maybe not a top ten, but i really enjoyed watching David Dinn from Boone in the mid 80's. The warm-up dunking show was great! -
Taulbee and Slavey are both lights out shooters. I would not be surprised to see them both on the wings at the same time. They have both improved their ball handling also. Slavey may not be their best defender, but lets face it most teams don't have five players on the floor that are capable of scoring. If you put up 55 or 60 points a game you will not lose many games.

Girls 8th Region Cats Pause preview
kyrebel replied to gold sunrise's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
Good points. But when you talk about competition levels Walton, Owen, and Williamstown all play as similar of schedules as you could possibly get. Yet Walton has two players ranked and Owen one (3 of 10). That's two of the top three in the same conference at that. I'm not sure what you are comparing when you talk about competition levels in the 8th. And yes the previews of the girls and boys individual rankings are bad. -

kyrebel replied to gold sunrise's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
How does Tori Wilhoite from Williamstown go from ranked 4th last year to not even ranked this year. She has averaged a double double in points and rebounds each of her last two seasons. I have personally watched her put up 26pts and 19 rebounds in a single game against Gallatin county as a sophomore. Some of the girls on this list may never average a double double. Some of the girls may become very good players, but until you put up the numbers to back it up, you should not be ranked in the top ten. The rankings should be based on what a player has done, not what we think they can, or are going to do. How many other players in the top ten have averaged a double double of any kind in each of the last two seasons? -
How do they rank Boone #1 and rank no Boone players in the top ten? How do they rank Conner #2 with only 1 player in the top ten? Top 2 ranked teams with only 1 player in the top ten, really? The rankings for teams and players just show you how little the people doing them know about northern KY basketball, both boys and girls rankings and info are not very accurate at all.

I agree with the top three as preseason Anderson, WV, and South Oldham. My sleeper in the 8th will be Owen County. Should be a great year for competitive basketball in the 8th.

Walton-Verona 2010/2011

I agree with you time and score. Point guard position should be a major concern, but i don't think it is as of yet. -
Williamstown 2010/2011
kyrebel replied to threetimelover's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
With only one senior graduating. I look for WT to develop some of their young girls and compete a little more than last year. Depth will be one of their major problems, which is the norm at most small schools. -
Owen County/Walton Verona Predictions
kyrebel replied to Time and Score's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I will say Walton by 2 in a close game. Owens height will not give Walton much trouble if they play like they did in the all A against GC. Owens biggest kid played outside the three point line offensively for the majority of the game against a much smaller GC. -
