Boone County 68 Walton Verona 35

final, per KHSAA scoreboard.

hmmmmmm. What happened to Walton?

Perhaps Nell wasn't happy with the spanking by McCauley and had her Rebels ready to play.

WOW! Walton was only down by 4 at halftime (27-23) and only scored 12 points the second half. Nell made the adjustments at the half and Walton could not handle the pressure. I believe Boone shot 47% compared to Walton's 18% and Walton committed 33 turnovers. That shouldn't happen with a team that is guard oriented. Boone's defense showed Walton's weakness, the point guard position. With the current line-up, Walton has no floor general and it showed tonight. Moss ended up with 26 points to lead Boone and Dixon had 23 to lead Walton.

If Dixon had 23, I guess the rest of the team had 12 pts. Where are all these terrific shooters? As I've always said a good defensive team almost always can beat a shooting team. Anyway, I'm sure WV will make adjustments and get better. I always pull for 8th region teams when they are playing outside our region, so I was hoping for an upset.

Ouch. No more predictions for me.

Dixon showed why she is not only Walton's best player but is in the running for POY in the 8th Region.

Anyone hear anything from SK-GRANT tonight?

WOW! I thought this one would be much closer. It sounds like Boone really turned up the heat.

Same team different year. Same guard problems. Same slow tempo. Way to many turnovers out front by the guards throwing the ball everywhere. Not strong enough handling the ball. You will not win many games if you turn the ball over 33 times. Dixon proved she can play at that level. Congrats to Kelli on a solid perfermance. Hopefully the Bearcats get things straightened out soon. Monday will be a tough game against Owen who has solid guard play.

Totally agree with you. Coach Miller needs to make line-up changes or he and this team will lose a lot of games because of horrible ball handling and passing. Plus, not to mention that Walton had 4 starters with a total of 2 points. Time to make changes because there is no way you can play 4 players who give you nothing on offense and are a liability on the defense side.

C-mon, now! It's one game into the season, you're playing against an excellent large-school team with arguably the best junior in the Bluegrass, and you lose after playing a good first half. Granted, the outcome may not be what you wanted, but you are already you are telling the coach what he needs to do. What's that all about? How about some perspective? Inhale, take a few deep breaths and count to 10. It's way to early in the season, Tiger, to get carnivorous on any coaches.

I'm fairly confident that the W-V coaching staff - and it's a good crew - has a pretty good feel for what will work best for the squad, and that they will use this well-timed opportunity to gain a great deal from playing a quality opening game opponent. The Lady Bearcats , IF everyone remains physically (and mentally) healthy, will be just fine and have an enjoyable season in 2010-11.

I will tell you I don't need to inhale and count to 10 because I have no dog in the fight(meaning I don't have a kid on the team or at Walton) but I have seen this team for THREE yrs now and it is the same old tune with their coaching staff. They play their favorites no matter how bad they are playing---that's just wrong. You can criticize me if you want, that is your right, but there needs to be a few players switched out of Walton's current line-up. Their starting guards turn the ball over too many times and give nothing on the offensive side(2 total points last night).

What changes would you suggest?[/QUOTE]

That's easy. Shelby Mulligan at point guard. She is a true point and without a doubt would do no worse than what was displayed last night. I believe she played about 3 minutes and had a nice assist to Dixon. I know she's only a freshman, but alot of freshman start. Look at SK, they are not afraid to take a chance. If Shelby is not going to get any playing time this year, how will she next year since all the guards are back? They have to have a true point out on the floor and she is the only one they have. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see this!!!!!

Ditto on Mulligan; IMO, she was ready last year. I don't care what grade she is in; she can handle the rock and more importantly understands the game.

Weren't these the same complaints WV fans had with the previous coach?

Interesting.
